I Found the Sound to be Muffled

This radio really needs a tone control. The sound is quite muffled. Also turning the tuning dial from a station at the lower end to one at the higher end is a chore. The dial is quite stiff.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great radio

This is our third one. We have had two others for several years and really like the quality of sound. Have also connected a CD player to it when we were living for 6 months in another city. Also have two Bose radios but this is a much better value.

Great look and functions; sound is far too boomy, bass-heavy

Pros: This is a lovely radio: nice wood, good electronics, with a lot of options for pluggin in external speakers or other inputs such as an mp3 player. It is designed to compliment a room's decor and that counts for a lot, I think. Great FM reception.Cons: "Boomy," ill-defined bass which can't be adjusted--no treble/bass control. Bass ruins many kinds of music. Also to add alt. input (eg mp3) one must inconveniently insert plug behind unit to take over from the radio. Cambridge radio's better on this.Summary: A qualified recommend on this one. I love the look and functions of the Tivoli radio but the sound equalization is deeply problematic; a treble/bass knob is all this would need to make it a 4.5 star item for me, but Tivoli has not seen fit to make this improvement for years. One workaround is to adjust the EQ on one's mp3 player, but that's a hassle and also doesn't improve the sound of the radio. It's also inconvenient to have to reach around back of the unit to plug in external inputs like MP3's to take over fromt the radio. The Cambridge Soundworks radio is superior in both sound and convenience regard, but lacks the Tivoli's good looks.

Awesome, classic style and well-built

I love this radio. I bought one for my home kitchen as well as my office. Its solid construction is a throw-back to the days when things weren't made out of plastic. I have it on in my office at work all day, and constantly get nerds walking over, thinking it's an old 60s radio. The only limitation is that this is a MONO radio. The odd time, my favorite college station (KXLU) will play a mono record and I'll miss out on one of the two channels. Doesn't happen often, though. The cheapo FM antenna that comes with it does the trick for picking up stations indoors (I'm practically in a concrete bunker), but it's not necessary for my home radio, which is near a window.

Best countertop radio

The Tivoli Audio Model One has proved to be a very satisfactory countertop radio for our kitchen. Sound quality is acceptable and it's capable of pulling in our favorite FM stations in our rural area.

Retro Design, Modern Performance

A very attractive minimalistic design sets the Tivoli One apart from its competition. The performance of the unit is on a par with other high end tabletops save the availability of stereo reception; however, stereo separation from two closely spaced speakers is rarely adequate and this unit does not pretend to offer it.The tonality is excellent from the single ported driver. The tuner section is most capable, pulling in distant stations with ease and dealing with closely spaced frequencies well. A switched external antenna connection is provided in addition to the usually adequate internal device.Although Tivoli offers a Pandora version- skip it. The aux. input plugs right in to your Blackberry allowing Pandora and Nobex (in addition to any other source) reception plus the Model One provides the fine tuner section for local reception.Really an outstanding product well suited for bedroom, office or other small room use. Looks cool too.

Great design, but very poor radio reception

This is a well designed radio with excellent sound quality if you can connect your ipod. However, the FM radio reception is terrible. I can't even pick up local radio stations that comes in loud and strong in my car. When I do get a signal, the audio fades in and out when you walk around the room. For a type of technology as simple as a radio, I would think Tivoli would have mastered the antenna. Now I have to go out and buy one just to make this a worthwhile investment.

Nice radio, however overpriced

For some reason, Tivoli radios have skyrocketed in price with no changes to the products (40 - 60% increases in 2008). Anyway, once you get passed the price, the radio is actually pretty nice. As advertised, it projects a pleasent full sound from an attractive package. As others have stated, the tuner is very good, and the knobs are smooth and accurate. It also has an auxillary jack for your ipod. There's really not much more to it. Simple.If you like the look, and can deal with the price, you could do a lot worse than this little mono. Four years after my purchase I'm still excited everytime I turn it on. While not my go to audio system for a party, it's perfect for a kitchen, den, or office. Looks great on a bookself.I'm now considering the Model Two for my basement, however the price increase irks me to no end... Might just have to give Cambridge Soundworks a try...
