Now what do I do with my Bose system? Standing side-by-side, the Tivoli Model One wins hands-down not just for looks but also for sound and FM reception. It's like having Elvis in my kitchen.
Love it. As some other reviewers have noted, it's a little bass-heavy (and there's no tone adjustment). For people looking for a cheaper alternative, I think the Sangean WR-11 is a comparably good radio (I have both).
Size is perfect yet doesn't take away from the sound. The sound is much better than I thought it would be. The size fits well on top of the refrigerator and takes up little space.
I start with the first one: it was a gift, for my office. It is small, classy looking (no veneer), unobstrusive (not a boombox). The sound is powerful, clean, and amazing. I set it to WBGO Newark Jazz radio. People in my office always ask where is the great sound coming from.I was so pleased that I bought one for the bedroom, and one for the kitchen. You can even get a wire to play songs from your I Phone.People, you don't need a remote control. Just reach over and use the dials, which are so nice to touch.
I have one of these in my home, and my boyfriend is always listening to it, so I bought it as a gift for him, for his house. He loves it. Receoption and clarity of sound is excellent for fm stations.
We bought this to get a signal in our basement from a public radio station about 30 miles away. It worked after we added an antenna. This is a quality device. Fine, smooth, solid feeling controls. Excellent sound for a table top. And obviously excellent reception.
Sound 4.5/5 this is def more geared towards music vs talk. It is a little bass heavy which makes music sound awesome really fills the room hard to believe one small speaker puts that much music out. however AM talk radio is not so good due to the bass, at low volume its fine but at higher volume voices are to low.Reception 3/5 I'm in chicago suburbs and I am able to get most of FM however not as well as I had expected. AM radio is hard to get 560 in clear which is only station i listen on AM. I think an external antenna might improve. I do notice a little drifting every now and than, I dont listen to it long enough to fully test. usually listen for few minute here and there. Also would be nice if the dial was illuminated as tuning radio in dark is impossible. For 150 expected better. Its also not shielded so if you plan on using in office, when i turn on my computer causes reception problems again nothing something you would expect in premium radio.Looks&Feel 5/5 It looks very sharp in my office. all the knobs feel of quality and sturdy.I was debating between this one and Sangean WR-11 (which i purchased for my dad haven't heard it yet though). After researching Model One and WR11, main reason I went with model one was because of the AUX selector. Since I plan on using the AUX often i wanted to be easily select it vs having to plug and unplug wire w/ the WR-11. Overall for 150 it doesn't meet the expensive expectations, I'm anxious to see my dads WR11 to see how that is. Overall i'm mildly happy with it, would not get another again.I'd give it 3.5 stars if i could
This is a great little radio. It is the perfect size for my bedside stand. It is easy to tune & gets great reception. I can also plug my iPod into it to listen to my personal music collection.
