Could not pull up the AM stations we so miss. Tried a Terk antenna with it, but that didn't abate the static and other problems. So, will be on the hunt for a radio that can fulfill the requirements.
I'd been relying on the radio part of my aiwa cd player--mostly classical on local station. When the tivoli came I couldnn't believe the difference. The treble, the base--I had been missing half the sound! All this without additional speakers, in a tiny footprint, without drifting and static. Besides outperforming any radio I've ever had, it wasn't designed by Darth Vader to look like part of a space ship. You turn it on with a knob and it goes. Buy one!
I had considered getting one of these for a long time. Totally fits my need (small radio for the kitchen). Plenty loud, good reception, excellent sound quality. And it looks much better than the other options that I considered.
So far a nice radio. FM turner is Great but....The built in antenna is not good enough. The plug in wire antenna is better. I happen to have a set of rabbit ears laying around and that is the ticket. It sucks having them sitting on the table but reception is the best that way. Also you will find some stations have good bass and some do not. A tone control is needed for that reason. The built in AM antenna is junk. I could only pull in one station with it and like all am radios you have to move the radio around to get a signal. For the price of this radio it should include a am antenna. I am a shortwave radio guy so I had a sangean ant-60 reel up antenna wire. I plugged it in to the 3.5mm jack and it works way better then the internal antenna. With the rabbit ears the FM picks up stations I never heard before. But unless you live in the middle of a big city you will have to have ugly antennas hooked to it....kinda ruins the small sleek look of the radio. My other concern is the switch on the back for internal to external antenna doesn't have a positive click to it. Just slides back and forth. So all in all it's a nice radio with good sound I have only had it for a week so I hope nothing goes wrong.
I was so excited to receive this radio, but unfortunately I am having to return it. When the radio is switched to the AUX mode I can still hear the AM radio playing. I don't know if this is a widespread defect or not, but at this price I expect a radio to work perfectly. That being said, the speaker really did have a nice rich and warm sound to it, so I wish the mode settings would have worked properly and I could have kept it.
Great, simple, elegant design. Perfect size for an end or side table. Puts out a lot of power/volume for its small size. Love the large analogue tuning knob.
We LOVED this radio... for the first 6 months. The aesthetic is spot on, the design is really lovely, the sound quality is excellent. After regular use for 6 months the radio now makes a terrible, deep buzzing noise whenever it's turned on. We've done a ton of trouble shooting, to no avail. Desperately hoping Tivoli will help us!
