When the Model One first came out I was put off by the lack of base and treble controls but I did like the looks of it and finally decided to get one. I've had it now for all of 3 days and so far I am quite satisfied. The tone is very well balanced. The controls feel solid and well made. The wooden cabinet is classy and solid. I particularly like tuning the analog detector. Just like radios in the old days. You can make very fine adjustments and when you're done you can be sure it will stay tuned! The classical station I listen to does not have a strong signal. I have tried several other radios and they all had problems with it, but not the Model One! Not a bit of static is heard on that station. I plan to buy a better dipole but so far the rat tail antenna that came with has performed well, surprisingly well!
Wow. A GREAT radio at a decent price. I replaced the "Expensive brand" radio with this. The Tivoli has comparable sound and I love the manual tuning. Stations come in sharp and clear. No need to crank the volume........the sound easily fills our living room. Solidly constructed and has a great look. Love this radio. I recommend It to anyone looking for a high performance table top radio. You will not be disappointed. Just turn it on and you'll go, "Wow."
The internal antenna isn't working at all. The external antenna that came with the product couldn't be plugged securely. I need to let its very thin long cable lying free on the shelf above it in order to to make it work. I am very disappointed that a product with such a great look would miss such an engineering detail. The antenna has certainly put this product to a shame.
Great radio. Voice is crystal clear, not very loud but good enough. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone interested in radio listening. AM reception needs a little improvement. I wish they offered shortwave too.
The great redeeming value of this radio is that it can be connected to external AM and FM antennas. By itself it is practically useless for all but the strongest stations. With external rabbit ears for FM and a tunable AM air-core coil it is very sensitive and selective. But this is only for expert radio enthusiasts who know what to do with it. If you are after a great radio that performs well out of the box, look elsewhere.
I bought this radio for my father-in-law in April of 2015 after having owned my first Tivoli Model One since 2000.Sound and sensitivity are still top-notch, and his reception in rural Indiana is fantastic.Highly recommended!
