Premium software served me well for more than 10 years. This year was problematic. Could not successfully download prior year tax return data, took several weeks and numerous phone calls and different agents to mitigate the problems. The last agent agreed that the software was defective and reissued but sent Basic instead of Premium. Finally got the right software but not the State software. All of this created cost and refund issues. A totally frustrating experience!!
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Fast
Cons: Hard to import documents

Bought this because Turbo Tax requires Windows 11 now.
Having used both, I prefer TT. Better interview and results. TT actually calculates your next year's estimated tax payments for you. H&R does not. Several other nuances, also.

Been using it for years .....sometimes sections become confusing, but most are easily completed. Great addition of allowing for multiple states now ......I always have at least 3 or 4 to complete in addition to the federal. What happened to the first state free submission?
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming

Federal OK but state is flawed.

I paid tax to another state, but software did not complete the form or tell me that I had to include it and a copy of the other state's return. Now I owe additional taxes plus interest and penalty!
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

The software is easy to use; menu-driven inputs and the ability to seamlessly absorb previous years' returns make the dreaded tax season a little less dreadful. Two negatives:
- It's nice that 5 federal returns can be filed for free, but downloading and filing state taxes can become expensive.
- Sometimes after completing the menus, the accuracy reviews take you to specific entries on forms, such as certifications regarding internet purchases. Not sure why these can't be handled in the normal interview process.

Program worked as well as if not better than Turbo Tax... The fact that Turbo Tax required windows 11 was a nonstarter for me... Turbo Tax lost a long-time user.
