The 2025 version, to me at least, was a huge step backwards from previous years. The interview part was confusing, and I'm not confident that the taxes were done properly, especially the state taxes. For example, the refund summary shown in the upper-left appeared to be different from the actual refund where I wanted to apply a portion of the refund to my 2026 taxes.
Also, in the state return continues to be a huge weak point in the overall package. For example, like previous years, I was forced into accessing an actual tax form because the interview section didn't cover certain situations. One would have thought that after many years that the state portion would be updated. In addition i was asked to fill out a state tax form only to find out that it wasn't needed; however, even though I used the back button to bypass the section and form the software insisted to keep it as part of the return.
Fortunately 2025 was the last year I needed the "Premium" features, so for 2026 I will be able to either stay with H&R Block or switch to a different software package
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this in February 2026 and had three updates in the course of filling out the Federal portion. There were a couple glitches after the updates that I had to reenter the information. The final result was acceptable. I ultimately filed online Monday April 13 and had my refund by Friday April 17.
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Time consuming

Everything was good except I could NOT download my financial information from my Merrill Lynch account. This caused me a lot of extra work. I am thinking of using TurboTax next year

Overall good - I have been using HR Block for years as well as Kiplinger before that.
This year I had over 1000 stock transactions and the review process made me click on each transaction - I could not find a way to review as a group or an option to approve the download from Schwab in bulk.
Also, when doing the California state return - no where did I see the option to pay my taxes via FTB Web Pay which is recommended - instead I had to send a check in the paper filing.
