I am not a tax expert but have a complicated return. Regular income, social security, stock rsu's, capital gains and a rental property. I have been using tax cut software for over 10 yrs and have never had a problem filing on my own. The interview format walks yiu through every step. Highly recommended. I am a customer for life.

Sometimes more explanation needed for an info to be entered. For example, 1099-nec business income for NJ: there are some legitimate deductions that would be nice to have listed on the same screen where this income is entered, or immediately previous screen. For instance solo 401k contributions. It is still debated by different sources. But tax software is supposed to know better.
Pros: Fast
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

Many features are better than in previous years. But I will not give you Five Stars until you stop rounding everything to dollars. Why don't you allow me to be exact? I honestly don't understand.

I still like the program, but this year's version has several annoying quirks. Most annoying is the accuracy review, which repeatedly tells me to review imported data with red ❗ next to them EVEN THOUGH THERE AREN'T ANY!! And repeatedly reminds me to check the figure in box 1 of my 1099, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE ALREADY CHECKED IT THREE TIMES. In addition, my return was rejected because the program included my address where the IRS didn't want it. Finally, it tried to get me to file on paper because of something to do with PTP. I realize this is all very complex, but I expect more from Block.
