I switched from TurboTax to H&R Block several years ago, when TT started charging extra for features that I need to do my taxes. I have not been disappointed. H&RB can efficiently download transaction information from my brokerage accounts, saving me loads of data-entry time. It helped me get a large rebate this year.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents

Didn't submit my taxes!

I went through each step and selected all the items to submit my taxes ON 4/15. Come to find out that in the middle of my submission the software needed an update and failed to submit. Very upsetting. Ended up submitting my taxes late because of the software. The message was unexpected and unclear. It appeared as though the submission was done and that the Update message was only to see an update of my tax payment. Very upset to see 3 days later that the payment did not, in fact go through. I really feel like this was a failure of the software. Never had that happen before.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
