The vinyl chair mat does the job but even after short term use you can see depressions forming. It will not last beyond a few years but if that is good enough for most people then it is fine. It does work well in allowing my chair to move over a carpeted floor.

At my office my desk chair was located near my desk but had to be pushed backward forcibly due to overlapping carpets. I was manually lifting the chair. The mat is satisfactory. However the thickness is insufficient to prevent chair wheel depressions in the mat after sitting too long before moving the chair.

I'm not completely satisfied with the chair mat as it is too short for the depth of my desk. The wheels leave deep gooves in the mat that I have to "oomp" to get it out. It also does not stay flat on the edges so I'm constantly kicking it. I've always wanted one but now I regret getting it. Sorry!!
