I use these pads in my home office where floor is covered with 7/8" thick commercial solid foam padding and thick plush carpet. The chair glides easily over the surface and protects the carpeted area.

I don't know whether this new mat is the same as the old one that cracked vertically in many places. I assume the plastic became brittle with age.

Probably OK on 1/4" carpet with no pad

This pad would probably work fine on 1/4" carpet with no padding but consider a heavier weight mat for any thicker or padded carpet. Chair wheels tend to dent the mat when used on thicker or padded carpet.
