I bought this chair mat for a Berber carpet. It does NOT work immediately there were indentations making it difficult to move chair back and forth. I think the old indoor-outdoor rubber-backed carpet is the suitable "carpet". It has studs so shouldn't be used on bare floors. Be sure to check your carpet depth before selecting a chair mat! I am ordering another mat and will have to figure out a use for this one.
