my old chair mat never caused static electricity. This mat is made of a different material that must conduct static. Sometimes I get a bit of a bite when I touch things after rolling across the mat. I do also have a new chair so it could be the combo of both causing the static. You can't beat the price of this though.
Inexpensive but not cheap. It does what it is supposed to do and looks great. It does tend to have dents from the chair legs but not terrible and so much better than carpet alone.

My carpet was too thick for this mat to handle. It immediately developed 'ruts' from the chair wheels and it became difficult to roll freely. I would recommend spending a little more for a thicker mat. The economy mat is not worth the day-to-day aggrivation of not being able to move freely.
