The pads come in various sizes so measure the space you want to place it on before buying. Then just put in place where you will use the chair and make sure you can scoot wherever you want to. This saves all kinds of floors (one version has plastic teeth that go into the carpet to keep the pad in place; choose a version without those teeth if you plan to use the pad on a nice wood floor or other surface you don't want to mar.
