Adequate. Protects area but not easy to roll chair. Mat is too soft & after sitting on roller chair casters form a divot on mat making it difficult for the chair to roll

For some reason I failed to notice the short pile carpet in our home office was beginning to show failure in the underneath padding. I shopped the internet to find what is available and found the plastic type chair mat. It is helping keep the condition from getting worse. Now the chair moves ever so easy on the new pad which is a bonus

This would work fine on a very low-pile carpet but is a bit thin for a thicker rug.
