The mat is just as the name describes "economical". This mat should not be used on carpet unless the carpet is a very low pile like an indoor-outdoor carpet.

my chair still sinks into the rug. if this product were thicker or more rigid think it would be more effective

It is a nice chair mat but on our medium thickness carpet it does slide around a bit.
