I use them to store magazines for reference and depending on the magazine size I can get 1 year's worth of magazines in a folder. The 3-1/2 inch size are too big in many cases.

1 3/4” is a good size for stuff too bulky to place in a regular file folder. Durable accordion folds seem to hold up well versus a single fold.

I have now replaced all of those nuisance hanging files with Staples Expanding File Pockets (1-3/4"). These file pockets are narrower and sturdier (can stand up by themselves). They are capable of holding several file folders booklets etc. At a time when office space is at a premium why buy another file cabinet if you can gain space by adding Expanding File Pockets.
