Staples Carpet Chair Mat 36" x 48'' Crystal Clear (STP-17436) had the right price and works just fine. I would recommend it for an economical chair mat.

The mat is great. I didn’t want a mat that came rolled up as I had no patience to deal with making it flat. This is a solid piece and so far so good.

It is very flimsy and doesn't work well at all on carpet.

Prefect size to fit next to our other mat. Wife is pleased so you know what that makes me. Good strong mat at a very good price.

Put this down under an office chair (with casters) to protect an old pine floor. The mat moves around a little but not so much that the chair rolls off. I'm not sure if the lip adds any value; maybe it'd protect the floor from hard or dirty shoes? Seems like decent construction I'm not worried about it cracking or anything. This is about the smallest size I'd be willing to go. Would definitely buy again.
