The plastic is too soft so the chair sinks into it rather than glides across it. Only slightly better than having the chair on the carpet. Spend more money and get a better one.

I've had this type of mat before. The size is just right for the area I have does the job which it is intended for. The problem I have is that they wear out too soon and then I have to replace them again

The flat pile chair mat does not work for me. The bottom of the mat has prongs which are too smooth to adequately grip the low pile office carpet by my desk. As s result the mat has a tendncy to easily slip and slide either under the desk or behind it. It seeps as though the plastic construction is study enough and the clear finish looks much better that the old one which eventually wore through but the problem of having to readjust the placement of the mat detracts significantly for ease of use. You should put a floor protector down once and be done with it.
