After about 2 months of use and repeatedly taking the flashlight in and out of my pockets, since the glass the light and laser emit from are flush with the rest of the body, the glass got scratched and caused the laser beam to be refracted and you couldn’t see it more then 5 feet away. This was my only problem with the flashlight, hopefully a newer model has a recessed glass to protect it from scratches and drops/cracks. I’m an industrial mechanic and always have EDC tools in my pockets, this could’ve contributed to the scratches.
The COAST PM50R Laser flashlight is a great everyday work light. It's compact, bright, and the combination of the spot beam, COB side light, and built-in laser pointer makes it very versatile. The magnetic base and pocket clip are especially useful for hands-free work, and USB-C charging is a nice convenience.
The build quality feels solid, and it's become one of my go-to tools for inspections and repairs. Overall, it's a reliable, well-designed flashlight that's easy to recommend.
Bought this as an upgrade for my older PM50R without laser and red options. This new one last longer, is brighter, has a laser pointer, and has a red light option (which I find handy to preserve my night vision. My disappointment lies with where the buttons are located. The buttons are located on the side without recess or a lockout feature. So when in my pants/ tool pocket I've often inadvertently turned the light on. With both lights facing inside my pocket I often don't realize the light has been turned on until I reach to use it and it's already dead. Be careful using it in a pocket with anything that could push the button.
Knowing before hand it is correct that the light is more area lighting than spot which is alright, the laser pointer helps a could deal showing coworkers something hard to pinpoint in our facility. Only thing would make it better is a lockout feature as even though not often it does get triggered in my pocket from time to time.
