I have several flashlights from Coast and am quite pleased with them all. But the Slayer is one of the brightest small lights I've ever seen. I love the dual beam letting you have a high power spotlight, or wide floodlight, and various brightness levels, too. I do notice it gets hot on the high power settings if used very long. In the "turbo" mode it automatically reduces brightness after about 30 seconds which is a good feature. USB-C is quickly becoming very common across small electronics, and the Slayer is the third Coast product I have using this charging method.
Great light, but a better pocket clip should be considered. The pocket clip is serviceable but lacks strength, proper size and the mount of the clip should be recessed into the body. It’s way too thin, too narrow and mounts to the body is such a way that the mounting screws will “clip” into anything other than a thin pocket, making retrieval a two handed job. Otherwise, very happy but would like to see a better clip.
I have been using this pocket light for the past 2 weeks. I am an autobody technician and a light with these settings is a must have! I have yet to charge the light since the first charge, so that is also a plus. I also like the low, medium and high settings and how you can change them to become the default option. The light feels good on hand, the clip is strong that it doesn't slip out of the chest pocket and it is easy to clean. I would recommend this light 10/10.!!
Really like the size and shape of this flashlight. My HX5 is my normal EDC flashlight at home and work, however this Slayer has a profile that easier in my pockets. Really helpful when crouching or getting into awkward positions. The size is similar to having two Sharpies in your pocket.
I do like the memory setting for the lights, so you can have you go to without needing to cycle through the other options.
The light is classic Coast, crisp and clean, and very bright.
The charge has been up to snuff and is very lightweight with its internal battery, in contrast to the rechargeable battery of my HX5.
The regular modes are all useful for different situations, but I really love the memory mode. I can use my favorite beam with it's own button instead of scrolling through the modes.
The size is good in my hand and in my pocket. It's so light, I don't notice it's there at all. The edges are all curved so there are no hotspots digging into my hand or fingers.
Lastly, it has a USB Type C charging input. It's really nice that I can use commonly found cords to charge it.
I received this light 3 weeks ago to perform testing and provide a review and I have put it through its paces . First thing I did was remove the light and tested to make sure it worked properly and then began the testing process. 1. Dropped the light on the floor and kicked it across the shop 50yards 2. Performed a drop test from our third floor mezzanine 3. Immersed in a five gallon bucket of water. 4. Put it in the mud 5. Ran it over with a shop truck. 6. Then just started to carry it everyday in my job and daily life. I’ve had to only charge 2 times.
It fits well in my hand. Slim fit in my pocket. doesn’t roll away when I set it down with it being flat sided . Easy to rinse off when dirty and holds and great charge. The turbo mode lights up a good area at night with the flood and spot combo. It’s really an all around great light for work and daily issues. Really came in handy the other day in the dark at the breaker box. I was able to hang the light from the door with the clip and work hands free. The waterproof feature is really nice when you are working outside in a storm and still need some light to see what you’re working on.
The only two things I would like to see improvement on in the second generation of this light is a higher brightness spot setting and a more robust and versatile clip (possibly removable).
All in all it’s a great light and well built. Would definitely get again
I have many many products from Coast, they are simply the best on the market. Out of all my pocket lights the Slayer is by far the best. It’s extremely bright, fits into your hand perfectly, it’s lightweight and just all around easy to use. Once again Coast delivers a fantastic product!
This Slayer is quickly becoming my go to flashlight. I am an automotive technician and have a large selection of flashlight I’ve used and acquired over the years. The Slayer is so lightweight and comfortable in my pocket I sometimes forget I’m even carrying it. The flat design is awesome. It’s perfect for people that are use to carrying pocket knives. The battery life is extremely impressive for such a small lightweight flashlight. Of course the light output is awesome, as you would expect from a Coast product. Also the aluminum casing is surprisingly strong and impact resistant. I put my flashlight through some harsh work environments. I ran over it accidentally with a Ram 1500 and the Slayer has been hanging tough. If you are looking for a EDC flashlight, I highly suggest you buy the Slayer.
