Great at home substitution

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I spent the past week using my Philips Baristina espresso machine daily.
Upon opening, I noticed the machine was sleek and lightweight . A nice size to sit out on a counter without being an eyesore. The biggest miss was that there weren’t any directions included. I needed google to find out the proper way to use and clean my new maker. Not a deal breaker, but an inconvenience nonetheless.
As an avid espresso drinker, my expectations were not high for an at home maker. To my surprise, I was impressed. You are able to grind roasted beans to make a fresh cup of espresso right in the machine. You also have the option to intensify the taste to give a more robust flavor. This expresso maker packs a powerful punch all while having the convenience of expresso whenever you want and at a much better price!
All in all, the Philips Barinstina Expresso maker is a great alternative to going out and purchasing your expresso. Naturally, nothing can replace a great coffeehouse expresso but this is a close second. I highly recommend.

do NOT recommend
on February 18, 2025

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was genuinely enthusiastic about the acquisition of this espresso machine and promptly set it up for use. However, I encountered some challenges with the included “instruction” booklet, which primarily contained warnings rather than practical guidance for operation. After some experimentation, I was able to get it to function, though not without difficulty.
One significant drawback is the excessive noise produced during the brewing process; it is notably louder than expected and generates vibrations strong enough to rattle nearby cabinetry. Additionally, I noticed that the machine leaks from two apertures located at the bottom, which raises concerns about its design. Furthermore, the countertop beneath the appliance becomes exceptionally hot during operation, leading to safety considerations.
Given these issues, I regret to inform you that I cannot recommend this product and will be disposing of it. I am fortunate that this purchase did not incur any financial cost. If it were possible to assign a rating of zero stars, I would not hesitate to do so.

Nice machine for the price point

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Overall, it’s nice starter machine for the price point. It’s easy to clean, compact, and simple to use. However, it does not have a way to choose a finer grind or pack your ground beans for a fuller bodied espresso. The brew, with espresso beans, seems to be a little on the weak side. I was a little disappointed that there is so much plastic, from the casing which is very thin to the handle on the portafilter. So I’m not sure how long it will last. Only time will tell. If you’re looking for a machine with a milk frother, this is not the machine for you. You will have to purchase that separately.

A great step-up from pod-based machines

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It works really well out of the box. All one has to do is add coffee beans to the top tank, fill the water tank, and plug in the machine and place a glass on the pedestal. Put the portafilter into the slot, push your button of choice for strength/size of espresso, then turn the portafilter to the right to activate brewing. Then voila, you have espresso! Compared to pod-based espresso, the espresso tastes much fresher. The machine takes up a decent amount of counter-space so it's definitely intended for a house rather than an apartment.
To me, this machine seems like a great alternative to the pod-based systems which I currently use. It allows you the ability to work from the bean and customize your drinks for those who are coffee aficionados. For the price point and the size of machine, a milk frother would have been nice. Between drinks, you need to just clean the portafilter which is easier than pod-based systems. This is definitely more environmentally friendly than the pod-based systems!

Best Home Espresso Machine for Busy Households
on February 24, 2025

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So far, I have to say I love the Philips Baristina Espresso Machine. As someone who loves coffee and making their own drinks at home, I had very high expectations for this espresso machine. I have tried some of their competition in the past and only found one that was even close to our local coffee shop.
Usually, making a full drink is a bit of a mess and ends up with coffee everywhere. At least, this was the case with my old maker. Honestly, the Philips Baristina changed everything. With its built-in grinder and easy to use design, it automates the entire process of making espresso. What makes it truly amazing, though, is the flavor. This is the first time I have made espresso at home that truly tastes like it came from my local cafe.
I also love that the espresso machine seems very well made and is extremely easy to maintain. Cleaning is only a push of the button, making it truly hassle free. All it really takes is emptying and rinsing the filtering device that holds the ground coffee for brewing. It is also very quiet during the grinding process.
With its easy to use design, cleanup, and ability to make superb espresso, I have a feeling the Baristina is going to be used heavily in this coffee loving household.

I love this machine! I did my research and read comments from multiple sites, good and bad but this machine was exactly what I was looking for. Other machines were so expensive and I just couldn't justify the cost. I have had the machine about 5 weeks now and have had no problems, it makes great coffee and is super easy to use
I would recommend this to a friend!

Perfect Machine for a beginner

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] From someone who doesn't have experience owning and operating an expresso machine, one thing that stands out is ease of operation. Only 3 buttons, easy to clean, simple instructions...I was able to make a great tasting expresso without issues. The simple setup works really well, and the product has a streamlined design that fits well on my countertop.
What would give it the full 5 stars? Brewing ideas (drink recipe suggestions) and perhaps more robust construction materials that would justify the steep price tag....the unit is sturdy but feels "cheap." Some coffee/flavor additive samples would be the a bonus, and maybe an added frothing wand would leave you feeling like a true barista.
