Good set but a minor problem.

This is an average build and an awesome set but has a minor problem. The twisting on the OWTC can be a bit better but I understand it is hard to do that with bricks. Overall I am extremely satisfied with this set and would recommend this to any fan of New York!

Meh

Meh, I love the LEGO Architecture series, and should have probably started with this build. Very plain and very easy to assemble. I had to make myself take little breaks to feel like I was getting my money worth. The packaging was in really bad shape but I won’t hold that against the review. The One World Trade Center building was the highlight.

The Empire State
on October 27, 2019

This skyline set is fantastic when displayed with a light gray background on a black shelf, as mine is. I like how most buildings here can be displayed from more than one angle, although the Flatiron Building is a little bit bland from the backside. Still, you have to understand that at that small of a scale, that was probably the most appropriate thing for the designers to do, so I respect them for making that decision. That goes for the Statue of Liberty as well, as I read some of the other reviews here, and that also was probably the best choice for the designers to do was using that small sand-green microfigure. Sure, it doesn't have a torch, but if the figure were manufactured as its own design specific to this model, it would be a lot more expensive to produce, and thus the cost of this set could've been quite a bit more, something that could've deterred a lot of this set's potential customers. The whole thing, though complicated in some areas (Empire State and One WTC), is fairly sturdy, and captures the most iconic New York sights well. It is (imo) the best of the Skyline series, in the aspects of color composition, displayability, sturdiness, and usage of space. It isn't overly lacking but also doesn't cram too many structures in a limited amount of space. Thanks LEGO!

It's up to you

I liked half of this set. There were many interesting assembly twists. A plus that various buildings attach to the base in different ways. I am most pleased with the feel and appearance of the Empire State Building; it was fun to build. I would also rate the Flatiron as a success, though much simpler. What detracted from the set: The Statue of Liberty is actually in New Jersey, so having it as part of NY City is not a good choice. WTC 1 in the set is as unappealing as the actual building; I would assume any tourists who go here are there for a different reason than to see this monstrosity. The parts bags could have been packed with more thought- maybe sorted by building, to avoid having all the little blocks open at once.
Recommended as a component of a collection, ZERO play potential.

*insert tacky NYC caption here*

This is one of the best LEGO Architecture sets you can find out there. It’s not too expensive, and although it’s pretty simple to build it looks great next to some other NYC stuff, whether it be canvas prints or the Empire State Building set from 2019. Either way this model features some of the most iconic skyscrapers in the country, possibly the world. The Statue of Liberty works well in the scale of the set, and doesn’t draw attention from the main buildings which is nice. The Empire State Building is roughly the same size as the standalone set from the beginning of the Architecture line, yet has the same look to it as the larger set from 2019. The Chrysler Building is another one that’s hard to capture the look of given its scale, but LEGO did their best and it fits in well with the model. Taking a break from the Supertall skyscrapers from Midtown, the Flatiron Building does a good job representing the real thing (which I’ve never seen without scaffolding covering it) given its scale. Finally, my personal favorite building in the model and the city, One World Trade Center is another where the scale LEGO built this in makes it so difficult to accurately represent, and I applaud LEGO for their efforts. I rated this as a 1 out of 5 in terms of play value because it’s literally not for play.

Build was fairly easy and the end result was a great conversation piece. My wife and I like to build with Lego to keep out brain and motor skills active. I would recommend this product for anyone.
