Great alternative to the others

This is the most comfortable utility knife on the market because it doesn't have a rubber handle. I have found that this smooth finish makes me more productive. I don't have time to worry about someone's definition of comfort.
Also, if you want a thin utility knife, then you have to sacrifice blade storage. This utility knife holds up to 11 razor blades inside of the handle and one in front, for a total of 12 razor blades.
If you want a belt or pocket clip, then you have to sacrifice comfort because it is not comfortable having a clip dig into the palm of my hand.
The best feature is the 5 exposed blade positions. Most retractable utility knives on the market only have up to 3 blade positions, some have only 1. You usually have to read the fine print (in a tiny font size on the back of the package to discover the truth).
I have found that many retractable utility knives will jam because the quick-change mechanism does not stay aligned properly (you won't have that problem ever with this model).
The only thing that can be improved would be having ridges along the top and bottom of the handle to prevent slippage when your hand is hot and sweaty.

I've been using this knife for years and never had any problems. I work in the receiving department and open boxes/cut plastic banding all day long. I wish my son worked this hard at cutting the grass.

Nothing New Under The Sun

In 1970 I walked into CC Lumber in Corpus Christi, Texas and lay down my dollars for my first Stanly 10-099 utility blade, just like my Dad's. The old original has seen me through 40+ years of drywall, framing and carpentry. Looks old, feels good in the hand. As long as I feed it Stanley replacement blades and clean it up from time-to-time it works (and has never drawn blood). Cannot say more for a useful tool than that.

I’ve been using these Stanley utility knives for decades. They never seem to wear out - except the blades which are easily replaced. I’ve got a bunch of these and keep them in various places around the house, garage, and truck so I’ll always have one close by. Thanks Stanley! So glad this one is still made in the USA!

Solid utility knife.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I run the construction labs at a local technical college and the Classic 99 is my go-to utility knife. It's simple, elegant, and easy to maintain. I have students bring all kinds of utility knives into the labs, and the more complicated ones are typically broken or abandoned by the end of the first semester. However, a simple, well made, utility knife like the Classic 99 will last them through graduation and beyond.

Classic Simplicity!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have owned this for years and still love it. Not as fancy as newer utility knives and no frills or multiple extras, but does the job every time. Stores blades and retracts easily, it is still my go-to utility knife.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using the 10-099 utility knife for well over twenty years now. Occationally I'd pick up a utility knife with "ease of use" features, but always found this one back in the belt. It's mechanically simple, doesn't break, and only seems to need replacement if lost. Luckily, I still have my original.

99A is better than 99E

Used Stanley 99A's for years, no problem. Bought two Stanley 99E's and right out of the box, one binds so much it is unusable or even dangerous. Why fix something that is not broken?
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
