In the age of "advancing technology" columnar paper pad and pencil still work; and not subject to electronic failure or crashing. Having it stored electronically is handy more efficient; until the data cannot be accessed. Paper records easy to access; and as one ages - I don't have to change the font where I can see and read it.
My personal preference is still paper analysis pads and a mechanical pencil to keep track of accounts and payments. Yes Excel programs have their place but paper records are easier on my eyes and can be used anywhere. Sometimes older is better.
