You should not use a 16-gauge power cord with an 1800W appliance, as it creates a significant fire hazard. A 16 gauge wire can handle about 10 to 13 amps, which translates to approximately 1,300 to 1,625 watts on a 120-volt circuit. A 16-gauge cord is not rated for the amperage an 1800W appliance draws and can overheat or melt. How did this device receive UL certification?
