Works well, hard to install

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The WiFi router from my ISP was not powerful enough to reach everywhere I needed a signal, so I thought this router would do the job. It works very well, and I get a strong signal everywhere, even through multiple walls.
I've installed and configured many different WiFi routers, including other Netgear routers, mostly with no problems, but this one was challenging.
I followed the instructions to use the phone app. Every step took multiple tries, and more than once I had to start over from the beginning. Eventually I finished, and everything was working, except that the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands had different names, even though I had supplied the name I wanted.

Other routers allow both bands to have the same name and use smart switching to associate the band with the best fit to the device requesting the connection. With these other routers, smart switching is either the default, or can be easily set. From the Netgear app I could not tell whether this router even had smart switching, let alone how to configure it.
I got in touch with tech support, and the tech sent me a link that explained how to use the browser interface to the router to enable smart switching with the same name for both bands. Why the app can't do it is a mystery to me.

Pretty good extension for price

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The NETGEAR night hawk app really made my Wi-Fi setup easy to learn and install. It has fast download and upload speeds while it also shows your ping. The only thing I will say is that I wasn’t sure if I can have it as a wireless router or not.

This router has worked out fantastic in our application being on the receiving end of a wireless bridge, has solved all of our issues and gave us a great signal within our brick garage. Set up was very user-friendly and I felt like an expert once I finished.
