Poor performance, extreme heating issues

False advertisement at its finest! I have a pretty beefy setup that is more than capable of providing at least 1gbps, this *800mbps drive is able to transfer 300mbps for around 10 minutes, then drops to 100mbps with hand-burning heat. This is a terrible product if you are planning to do anything more than storing old family photos in it. Neither made for intensive usage, nor for professionals.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Rubbish, doesn't work on Mac

I bought the 1 TB version and – surprise – it can't be formatted on a Mac. The "firmware issue that presents itself in very limited situations" is apparently a lie, the internet is full of reports and there is no solution by Sandisk/WD, only excuses.
There is a firmware update that works on Windows and anyway, this model is "officially" not affected by problems.
Don't bother asking for a serial number, it's officially not affected so I guess there will never be a solution.
I will have this replaced by the shop and buy from a more reliable manufacturer. I will warn other people to buy Sandisk products.

Extremely slow write/read speeds!

There's this thing. It's called FALSE ADVERTISING. And it certainly applies here. I unfortunately bought two of these 2TB drives and when I eventually got around to using them I noticed they seemed really slow. I checked the formatting, ran BlackMagic tests and I am getting aprox 125-165 mb/s write speeds. This is using the supplied cable, plugged directly into the first port on a new Mac Mini m2. The drive is formatted correctly, using APFS, has barely been used. I just can't believe it! So disappointed with these.

Not found on *3* windows computers, win7, 10 & 11

I have 3 different computers, 3 different versions of Windows. It was not found, even by diskpart. That's where all the articles I have found tell me to go fix the problem. Do you have any idea how hard it is to initialize, format, assign a drive letter, run a troubleshooter, do anything when NONE of the programs can detect the drive. All my flash drives are found, external HDDs (Seagate, Adata, everything but WD or Sandisk). So I don't very highly of this drive. On the positive side, since none of computers could EVER find the drive, I haven't lost any data. Wish I could give it a zero.

Don't buy for macbooks

Please refer to the following link to erase the drive : https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/8200/related/1 The process is Data Destructive and cannot be undone. All the data on the drive will be lost so before reformatting it please save the data.

Potential difficulty with M1 macbook pro/ventura

This product did not work as intended. Don't get me wrong, it was fast and stored data fine but it was not reliable with my M1 macbook pro 2020. Sometimes it would work fine with no problems, other times I would plug it in and nothing would happen. I've only been using it for a month so hopefully the issue is resolved and I don't lose hundreds of gigabytes of storage.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
