If you can only have one, Make it this one

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was surprised by the size and weight of this tool - very substantial. I own two other Dremel battery rotary tools and I find that each excells in a particular area and falls short in another which is true for all tools.
I have to say that if you can only afford one rotary tool, battery or electric, this is the one to get. It's strong running and fairly quite. The speed control dial holds its position and isn't easy to mistakenly change while working. The battery power indicator is bright and right beside the speed dial. The on/off button is of a recessed slide type making it extremely difficult to turn on of off in error. There's a convenient hanging hook that stays locked out of the way until needed. The 12V 2.0Ah Li-Ion battery locks securely in the end of the tool and has a flat bottom making it easy to stand the tool on its end. The whole tool has great rubberized details making for sure grips as the tool is fully ambidexterous.
This tool can handle anything you throw at it and takes all the Dremel accessories and bits, which the other battery units can't. I expect this type of battery to hold its charge for months so it will always be ready when needed. The battery charging unit is designed with a solid base to sit on a bench or desk with a decent length cord going to its power pack.
The included case is well designed and made with room for a few accessories or extra battery. Though a soft shell, the top and bottom are semi rigid for tool protection. For casual use this kit has it all. But for someone who frequently uses their tool or takes it in the field, I'd suggest getting a spare battery.
As I said earlier, this is a substantial tool in size and weight, so for the casual crafter or someone doing fine work, this will probably be a little difficult to handle for prolonged periods. But not to worry, I'd suggest adding on the flex shaft and hanging this tool up by its built in hanger. Now you have all the power of this tool and no weight of bulkiness to hinder your working.
So I highly recommend this tool. Use it as is or add an accessory or two to make it your your ideal.

High power, cordless goodness!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have owned several Dremel tools, but there's always been an evident difference between the corded tools and the cordless ones. The new Dremel 8240 certainly blurs those lines. Much larger than previous cordless tools (it feels more like the corded ones), this tool is large and feels quite substantial in your hands.
But the question is: how does it perform? In one word, the answer is: splendidly. The Dremel 8240 made quick work out of some of the wood and metal engraving and cutting I was working on, and still had plenty of juice to spare with its included 2.0 Ah battery. And this thing is quiet, too! I first thought that the quiet nature of the tool meant it wasn't putting out any significant power, but boy, was I wrong.
The 8240 comes in a great carrying case, with plenty of room to store the battery, charger, and any accessories you need. This may be my go-to rotary tool from now on!

Super fast

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great dremel i used it with a sanding disk using the different speeds for different woods and it made my job so much easier. The fastest setting was great for sanding it cut my sanding time in half.The cordless feature made getting around to the different projects i was was working on easy and time saving.

Power carving with 8240-5

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am a power carver, I use a flex shaft and a reciprocal carving flex shaft . It is great to carve out side ,weather permitting, no power cords means I can cave any where. The 8249-5 has the power I need . So far the battery life is good. When using it with out the flex shaft it feel a bit heavier and a bit bigger than my 8220. Also the grip is to the front of the tool not the back .
The case is cloth which I most likely won’t use , I need case with more protection.
The hard case you can stack things on top not with cloth. That being said a case is not important to me . I build cases which hold several of my tools , accessories and chargers. I haven ‘t yet but will be using it to sharpen my chain saw .It will be my main dremel now.

Wow factor

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my 2nd cordless Dremel. Comparing Dremel 8240-5 to my old Dremel Micro is like comparing apples to oranges. The Dremel 8240-5 blows the Dremel Micro out of this universe. The 8250 is bigger, has more power and I was able to finish an entire project with just the initial charge. Its mind blowing. I am utterly shocked but not surprised. I have never had a problem with any of my Dremel product. Keep up the good work Dremel and I would absolutely love if Dremel came out with a new Dremel Lathe machine.

Powerful product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The 8240-5 is a workhorse. The largest Dremel tool I have. Charges in a good amount of time. Charge lasts a decent amount of time. Uses all the attachments I have. Great for large jobs. I installed a new radio in my car, and had to remove some interior material to get the radio to fit properly. The 8240-5 barely had room to fit. It was tight. It cut through very easy using a cutting disc and I was able to install my radio. I had surface rust on my passenger side rear wheel well. I used the stainless steel brush attachment and cleaned the rust away. Then primer and painted. I can't wait to find the next project. The 8240-5 is awesome. Heavy duty. Great for large projects.
