Dremel and remodeling

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] In remodeling a den, we purchased a small, corner unit to use for a printer stand and TV accessories holder. Once assembled, I got the idea that it could hold the external TV speaker as well. The speaker, unfortunately, was just a bit bigger than the angled corner cabinet could handle. However, I noted that I could cut an opening in both sides to allow the speaker corners to protrude without being visible from the cabinet front. Once again it was Dremel to the rescue - the handy, cordless 8240 kit made the job on the thin lauan plywood an easy job. The kit comes packed with the right accessories in addition to the tool and is so easy to use and store. Great design! And I really like the cordless nature. The powerful battery lasts through long jobs and without a cord I was able to maneuver the tool in this tight space to get the job done. It was the perfect tool for the project. The speaker fits perfectly (and I can hear my favorite shows) thanks to the Dremel 8240.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Freedom in your Hand, Dremel 8240

Great rotary tool for a novice Dremel user.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I found the 8240 a very good rotary tool. I will start by saying that the 2ah battery is not the best of batteries, and I would really have liked to get a second battery included in the kit. The added tool tray is rather lacking to tell the truth. The cutting wheels are of the old design that use (an included) arbor with the small screw that retains the wheels. I kind of consider this kit as something that was thrown in just to give the new user something to upgrade right away. Anyway, I utilized this tool to make a repair part for my aging 65 MGB. The tail light lenses are retained by a built in tab on the base of the light assembly. Since it is make from pot metal the tabs break quite easily. I designed in CAD (cardboard aided design) a fix for this problem. I used the 8240 to cut out the repair piece from aluminum. Cutting the aluminum was a bit slow going since I was using the included cutting wheel. After some time, I used one of the EZ arbors and cutting/grinding wheels to shape the aluminum. Once I had the rough size, I used the included sanding drums to finalize the shape. The battery did not last all that long while cutting through aluminum. A higher amp hour battery would help this along. The charger does work quite well, charging the battery quickly. Overall I do find this a great upgrade from my old corded Dremel 4000. I think I would recommend going up one or two levels to get a great rotary tool, like the Dremel 8250.

Great for getting into odd angles

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Since I received this 8240 wireless tool I have been using it a lot more than I expected. I have been using an older model Dremel with a Flex Tool for most of my modeling and 3d printed items but I have found that the 8240 enables me to get angles that I can't get with the flex tool without major moves to get the model in the right position which in many cases I cant do. I will be using the a lot more in the future. Great tool.

Surprised How Freeing Lack Of Cord Is

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First time I have used a Dremel Cordless Rotary Tool in my 30 years of owning and using varied levels of corded Dremel's. I have an added reason for liking this Cordless version outside of the standard product measures, I now have limited use of my right arm after a fall and elbow surgery, which is where I want to start my review. My project with the Dremel 8240 for review was cleaning and repainting a simple "In Ground" Garden Hose Stand which had rusted, which I used various Dremel Sanding Flap Wheels and Detail Abrasive Brush to remove rust to metal. The 8240 actually had the feeling of being lighter and easier to move-around/reposition than the corded Dremel 4000 I use, this from the drag of the cord itself. The 8240 had no noticeable power difference between it and my Dremel 4000 as I adjusted the RPM up and down the scale and in use in my project. The 12V Battery charged exactly as claimed with it Quick Charge and used two of the three bars in total for my project with no noticeable decrease performance as the Power Indicators lights dropped from three bars to one. Overall I would gladly replace my corded Dremel 4000 with the 8240, and as suggested in the User Manual for those who find a good amount of use for their Rotary Tool buy a second battery.

The 8240-5 Cordless Rotary Tool is better

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I received the 8240 Rotary Tool, I was excited to see what had changed in the wireless tool since the 8200 tool that I own. The first thing I noticed after opening the box was the soft case as apposed to the hard case that came with the 8200. At first, I was disappointed with the case but after opening it up I was pleased with the arrangement and the straps to hold down the tools.
The second thing that struck me as odd was the size and weight of the 8240 tool with battery. I thought that it was way bigger and heavier than the 8200 but I was wrong. After putting both side by side and picking up both, I determined that they were about the same weight and size.
What I immediately liked about the 8240 was the rubberized grip of around the tool which gave excellent handling. Also, on the 8240 there is an indention near the front of the tool that help hold the tool when held in the pencil grip manner. The tool is well balanced was easy to hold using a pencil grip.
With the slightly higher speed and the higher voltage the harder tasks like cutting nails or sawing metal are easier. Also, I like the longer amp hours is a big plus.

The Dremel 8240 performs great for all my projects

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently got my Dremel 8240 rotary tool and I have been ever so happy with the ability to work on outdoor projects without dragging a extension cord through the back of my property in order to perform a simple grinding, cutting, shaping or polishing operation. Thank you Dremel! I first needed to add steel supports for my plants in my garden and the cutoff wheel used with the 8240 worked great for cutting the steel to lingths (used up several wheels, but that"s ok. The important thing is that the 12 volt battery held up for four all for cutoffs that were needed. Next I installed a wood burr in the 8240 rotary tool so I could grind off excess wood that showed on a plant stand I'm building. The tool worked through all the glued wedge connections smoothly and uniformly very little vibration and most importantly no motor stall as I was cutting. I like this tool because I can adjust the speed to fit what I'm working on. This is one sweet tool.
