Keyword is essential. Lots of noise in the picture causing waves (like when you used to record old monitors or tvs). Other than that picture quality is ok - laptop cameras are better but it’s acceptable for the price. If you do a lot of video calling you might want to step it up to a higher end camera.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The resolution on this camera is great. It seems to take full advantage of the available light. The two microphones seem to work well too. This camera has made video conferences a much better experience. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

I've found this camera a little grainy (trouble collecting light) even for a FHD camera. None of my attempts to better light myself have solved it. I guess that's what you get for such an inexpensive camera. My bigger issue was with the shipping from Lenovo. On the website it said 3-5 days. In fact it took a month to ship, and even then the ship date changed regularly.

I don't have high expectations from a webcam, but if I did this would meet them. The picture is clear, it sits on my monitor well, works on Linux. I haven't tried the built in microphone, or even checked if there is one.
