Would give zero stars if I could. Imagine buying a car, happily driving it for three years, then Car Brand pushes a "security update" making it so you can only put Car Brand gas in your car. But that's stupid, you say, gas is the same! And you'd be right. And Car Brand would be wrong, bad, and dishonest. And that's what HP has done here.

Gosh, zero stars are not the rating we want. We intend to be a transparent company. HP enjoys providing our customers with great ink and customer support. If you navigate to the settings menu, you can resolve the update problem by reverting to the older software version.
Most of the time, our cartridges experience no issues with software updates. I regret you are discouraged with your experience. I hope you have a better printing experience with the next set of cartridges.

Your situation is related to the firmware, which is an unwelcome disruption. I can understand why you thought you were out of the cartridges. Fortunately, there is a quick fix for the problem.
