I have several of the Greenworks 24 volt tools. This battery was a good purchase for my collection to power these devices. I love the fact that has USB port to charge other items away from grid power. The down side to this is the fact that Greenworks has 2 different 24 volt batteries. This battery does NOT fit my weed eater!

Why two different 24V batteries

I have 4 greenworks tools all 24V and one is not compatible. Three use 29842 batteries and one uses BAM709 and they are not compatible with the tools or charger. Why in the world are there two different 24V systems. I did not know that when I bought the fourth tool and now I can’t charge BAM709 battery. To me this is unacceptable.

These batteries are absolute garbage. I keep mine on the charger in a heated garage, and now have to order yet ANOTHER set of these. 3 of them so far in a years time.

Hello Matt Haver,
We are sorry to hear about the experience you have encountered with this battery. The overall battery life is dependent on many factors such as where they have been stored, charged, and handled. When the battery will not be in use, we suggest storing it indoors, in a cool dry area - away from direct sunlight. Leave the charger unplugged and the battery disconnected from the charger unless it needs charging. It is recommended to store the battery with a full charge, and if it is being stored for a period where no use is expected, to check on the charge every couple of months. If you notice the charge has dropped, we advise charging the battery back up to full before returning it to its safe storage place. Following these steps will ensure you receive the most of the battery life. Please know that our batteries are covered by the manufacturer's warranty as stated in the owner’s manual period from the date of purchase. Should you continue to experience a problem with the battery and charger, simply contact Greenworks at 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS). All we ask that you have access to the battery and charger so that we can complete troubleshooting with you and gather necessary unit information.

Overheats before charge runs out

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought a mower combo kit which uses these batteries six months ago. Battery life should be longer than 15 minutes, but mower stops working around that time. Putting the batteries on the charger doesn't do anything until they cool off. Takes about two and a half hours for them to cool down and recharge. My yard, which is less than 1/4 acre. should take one charge and 45 minutes to mow, but instead requires three charges and 8 hours to mow. So I bought more batteries and another charger.

Hello R Bits,
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with the run time of this battery when used in this lawn mower. It is important to recognize that the run time depends on the load acting against the unit and fluctuates depending on the height setting, the terrain, grass height, type of grass, whether you are mulching, operator technique, etc. - there are so many factors to consider. The harder the unit must work, the quicker the battery charge will drain. Similar to how the gas in a vehicle will deplete quicker when driving at higher speeds or carrying more weight. When using your battery, you have to be aware of the ambient temperature as well as the battery temperature. If you are working in very warm areas, try to keep the batteries cool before using them to avoid shut-down due to the battery pack overheating. Your product will shut down if the battery reaches 70°C (158°F) cell temperature.
How to keep the battery from overheating:
Do not use it in high ambient temperatures (higher than 40°C/104°F).
Do not use battery-powered tools for tasks they are not designed to perform (cutting tall grass with a battery-powered walk-behind mower requires more power).
Do not store the battery in an unsuitable, warm place like a car.
Do not leave the battery in the product (e.g. walk-behind mower) while in the sun.
