[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It is so very frustrating that the auto-feed spool does not work. Every minute or so I have to take the spool apart and feed out more line by hand. This is my second machine (acquired because the first was stolen but I still had the battery and charger pack and also the mower, which is great) and it is the same problem with the auto-feed.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We are sorry for your experience. The machine has an auto-feed head. If the cutting line does not automatically advance, it can be tangled or empty. 1. Start the machine and keep 3s. Release the trigger until the machine totally stops. 2. Repeat the above step until you can hear the line-cutting noise. The line will extend approximately 0.4 in. with each stop and start of the switch trigger until the line reaches the cutoff blade and the cut-off blade cuts the excess length. Do not pull or release the trigger too fast. Users can also, remove the cutting line from the spool and rewind it
The line might be twisted around the spool.

Big disappointment

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had this trimmer for a bout a year now.
From the first use the string has never advanced properly.
The string also snaps off very easily so have to remove the cover and manually advance it.
This is the original string that came with it. It's not that I bought a cheaper type.
This has been a waste of money.

A way of testing the auto-feed is hold the unit as you would while in operation. Make sure it's good distance above any surfaces that may snap the string. Then turn the unit on/off 10x and see if the length of the line has changed. If it does, this indicates the auto-feed is working. If the unit does not extend line when you turn the trigger switch on/off, there may be an issue with the auto-feed feature. Terrible trimmer

Had this model for 2 years now. Tried to use it as a backup in case my other trimmer broke down. Well, my other trimmer broke and I had to put it to use. It’s worthless. It’s a double line feed, which means double trouble. It doesn’t feed right, doesn’t keep the line tight. It’s a nightmare to try to change the line, just to have it not work again. I’d return it, but I’m sure it’s out of warranty. I’ve had my share of trimmers and this one is the worst. Don’t buy this one.I have the greenworks electric riding mower and it’s fine excecpt for the bagger chute assembly which broke on me. I also have the 80 volt push mower which is fine. Was definitely expecting better from greenworks.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

1. Hit the trimmer head against the ground while you
operate the machine.
2. Line is automatically released and the cut-off blade cuts the excess length.
To replace the cutting line.
Cut a piece of cutting line approximately 3m long. Bend the line at the midpoint and hook the loop into the slot in the center rim of the spool. Make sure that the line snaps into position in the slot. 3. With your finger between the lines, wind the lines equally and tightly around the spool in the indicated direction. 4. Put the lines in the guide slots. 5. Do not wind the lines beyond the edge of the spool. Alternately, replacement spools can be purchased directly from Greenworks. Part number R0200198-00.

Light weight,small,gets the job done!

Purchased this one to replace the 60v 13" cordless 2.0ah we bought last Spring.A little heavy but worked flawlessly until this April for the first trim, somehow the feed for the spool got messed up.
We opened it up thinking it would be an easy fix but nope.We have an electric trimmer that we have used for four years and was totally stumped by the Greenworks one,we ended up throwing the tool away and ordered this newer,smaller version.
If you have a small yard or garden,this will work in cutting the lawn as well as trimming the sides.
The only issue was the spool that is installed,it cut itself off at least four times,were we ended up taking it out and using our other brand's .065-inch single line spool instead.
It took 45 minutes (due to the spool issue) to finish but it still has one bar left of energy on the battery.
Pros: Convenient, Cost-Saver, Easy to Use, Quiet, Environmentally Safe, Effective, Powerful
I would recommend this to a friend!

Unit its light and easy to handle. Edger function works of, would be better if it had a wheel to support the unit while edging. Documentation is fair, both in assembly and not easy to determine what to order for spare spools. Shouldn't have to call to find out what to get.
