Needs Alexa App

So the vacuum itself is great so far, but it's far less convenient than the one I was upgrading from. It's advertised as compatible with Alexa ... but this is just a marketing ploy. The Alexa skill exists but has zero functionality. The convenience of using Alexa with the vacuum is important to me - I don't want to hunt for my phone and click through 5 screens to tell Dreame to vacuum the dining room after breakfast. I'm used to saying "Alexa, tell *competitor* to vacuum the dining room" and I'm done. I've become accustomed to that and may be returning the vacuum because of it. I was expecting "Alexa, tell Dreame to clean/vacuum/mop the kitchen" or "Alexa, tell Dreame to end job and return home. Even if it was less robust I could probably get by, but the skill doesn't do anything useful at all. I like the vacuum but I used that Alexa skill multiple times a day and I'm really missing it.

Better than the L20

Coming from the L20, the X40 offers greater software benefits, like a CleanGenius 2.0 capable of vacuuming first and mopping second. It also gets more areas with the extendable side brush, and generally has more capabilities in terms of automatic cleaning and customization, but I noticed it's not perfect when facing all the weird geometries of the house. Possibly to be expected.
I like the upgraded base station. Specifically, the ability to put in more detergent into a reusable container from Dreame's big cleaning solution bottle (sold separately) is more economical than buying little plastic tubs. I also think the warm water washing seems to keep the pads cleaner than the cold water washing. However, compared to the L20, the hot air drying is a little noisier, and the washing is definitely somewhat noisier. It's also disappointing that L20 bags can't fit in the X40.

I conducted thorough research before purchasing this robot, and I had high expectations. However, it disappointed me. When I used it to vacuum, I noticed that it left behind residue even after passing over the area. I had some sticky substances on the floor, and it didn’t remove them. Since it had a camera, I assumed it could detect areas that needed more attention. I’m not sure if I received a defective robot, but it falls short of its advertised capabilities.

A Game Changer!

We upgraded from another brand standard self emptying robot and have been blown away so far at everything - speed, efficiency, quiet operation and effectiveness. It really does it all and is self sufficient for the most part - just add water and clean out the old one every 3-4 runs (takes 2 minutes). Saves a ton of time, does a great job and great build quality - would highly recommend.
