For the over achieving grade school kid

For your overachieving grade school child buy the College ruled composition Notebook by Staples. Same great product as the wide ruled variety with awesome color choices for the cover. If they love to write they may even fill it up and their English teachers who want to aspire future writers will even forgive them for being the children of parent rebels who bought an item that wasn't exactly what the list asked for. Be compassionate to your child's English teacher. Only buy this product if your little overachiever actually has neat handwriting.

Sturdy/Excellent Quality

These composition notebooks are excellent quality. I use them for my middle school students for their Response Journals. The sewn seam helps keep the notebooks intact and can withstand significant abuse. The paper quality appears to be better than spiral bound notebooks and they have the added benefit of the binding not crushing like the spiral bound. I selected college ruled because they make students write using a smaller font and ultimately lead to neater writing. I strongly recommend these for middle school students and adults and believe others will agree with the excellent quality designation.

The usual composition notebook

These are your standard bound composition books the kind teachers require in grammar school and middle school. Except these are college ruled rather than wide ruled so if your kid is comfortable writing on the skinnier lines the advantage is you get more on a page. Nothing fancy here pretty much the same thing you can get at other office supply stores. Usually one store or another will offer them on a super sale at back to school time. There are fancier styles with decorative covers by my kid always wants the plain ones because they decorate them at school.
