My husband and I needed some booklets made for a training class and places we checked were so expensive just for 20. I looked online- found this binding machine and combs and paper for covers- ordered next day delivery and WHAM! We turned out 20 professional looking booklets. My husband did the punching and depending on how many sheets you do need to press hard. But the holes were clean looking, the binder is heavy enough to handle the number of sheets suggested. We have used it a 2nd time and made 25 more- so looking forward to having it help our small business for years to come.

We think that our Star binder is a great alternative to using an outside company too! Thank you for choosing Fellowes as a tool to help your small business succeed!
I'm a high school teacher and I can finally bind study manuals and unit packets for my students. Well worth the cost. Just getting 50 study manuals assembled at an office supply store would have cost me over $150. Thabk you for saving me a bundle of money. :-)
The outside of the box says that it can use up to 3/4" combs, but they do not fit. Going to a smaller size doesn't work either, as the metal fingers that open the combs don't catch all the rings of a half-inch comb. The product looks nice, but it's going back in the box and back to the store. :( Also, the survey questions are poorly constructed. For example, I don't know what the durability will be, but the survey makes it a requirement that I put a star for that characteristic. So, I put in only 1 star. There should be an option for "not applicable." Last, I'm completely not surprised that the first nickname I chose is already taken. That nickname is "UnhappyCustomer."
I really love this machine. Since it's the first day of my having it, I cannot speak to it's durability. But for the performance, it is very easy to use. I like that you load the paper vertically so that you can see at a glance whether the paper is all lined up properly. The design of the handle assures equal pressure on both ends of the paper so that all the holes go through. Also, it doesn't take a lot of strength to use the handle for cutting the holes as I have experienced difficulty with that step in using other binding machines. If anything changes after I complete my two upcoming projects I'll write another review. But for now, I am VERY satisfied!
Hey there, thank you for sharing your awesome review with us! We are glad that you are so satisfied with your Star binding machine. Definitely let us know how your projects turn out :)
I purchased this binder for my wife, who is a preschool teacher and plans to run a home day care. We immediately put it to use and I found a few idiosyncrasies that make this binder just short of perfect. First, the socket that holds the paper for the punch is very shallow, so it's hard to be sure the paper is all the way seated in the punch before pulling the lever. That's item #2 - the dual lever with crossbar was a selling point for this unit, thinking it would help with punch effort and distribution of punch force. It does, but it also makes the loading/unloading of paper into that shallow slot more difficult. In retrospect, a single L-shaped lever for the punch mechanism would be my recommendation. Lastly, the comb mechanism lever should have stops for the various sized combs. Opening the lever all the way makes it very difficult to load even the 20 sheets for the 0.25" comb; so practical use is to rotate the lever to the closed position as the paper is loaded into the comb. With these modifications to work practice to accommodate for the machine, it works well and quickly.
Pros: Safety Features, Speed
Cons: Punch Capacity

We appreciate your recommendations and feedback! Thank you for choosing our Star + binder for your wife and for taking the time to share your review.
Bought this machine because of the reviews I read, and it does everything I want in a stylish package. I like the vertical punching (much better than the horizontal style that I previously owned). It's great for making booklets, calendars, and presentations. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I am a self contained special education teacher and this is a great tool for my classroom! I use it to make adapted books for my students! It is so easy and a great way to help my students learn!! I especially like the sizing tool that comes with it to know what size combs to buy!! Great buy!!
Pros: Document / Comb Measurement Guide, ease of use
I purchased this binding machine to add PVC covers to existing books & workbooks I had done by a printer. The Star+ 150 punches through 2 Clear PVC covers with ease and was simple to load an existing book, pull part, add the PVC covers and reassemble with ease!! Great machine for the price!
