Bad Service

On February 13 I went to the Staples store in Titusville to buy 25 sheets of 8 ½ x 11 card stock and have it punched with a center hole on one side and binder holes on the other. The two employees were busy but the manager came to help me but said that there were several orders ahead of me and that I could come back later in the day to pick up my order. I explained to the manager that I lived in Cocoa and didn't want to have to make two trips to Titusville. He then was gracious enough to work my order himself which he did to my satisfaction. I asked about the binders which would put the sheets together and the manager directed me to the store aisle where I could find the binders. I found that the binders were restricted to different sizes but not different types. I picked out what I thought would be the right size from what was available paid for my purchases and went home. Upon examining the binders at home I discovered that what I bought was for a different type of binder hole and couldn't be used for my sheets. So on the 15th I went back to the store to exchange my binders for the correct type. The employee in the area where I had bought my card stock told me that the type of binder that I needed wasn't sold in the store and that I should have received the correct binders from their stock when I originally had the card stock punched. I explained that I really need the correct binders and that the card stock that I had bought was useless without the correct type binder. The employee told me that she couldn't give me the correct binders at this later date but she could sell me some from their store stock but the price was $4.00 for each binder! I was certainly surprised at the price but since I was in immediate need of a binder I agreed to buy a single binder. I took that purchase and a few other items to the cashier explained that I needed a refund for the incorrect binders and also that I had a 10% off coupon for my new purchases. He rang up my refund then my new purchases. But he had difficulty in scanning in my coupon however then told me that for some reason the fact that I had a return kept the coupon from being validated. With a sigh of resignation he further explained that he would have to void out all the previous transactions and then credit the return separately from ringing up the new items and did I really want him to do that. By this time I was getting frustrated with my whole Staples experience and told the cashier to forget it I'd simply pay for my purchases without using the coupon. I gave my credit card to pay and the cashier asked to see my driver's license which seemed a prudent thing to do. But in looking at both he informed me in a rather rude way that the name on the card didn't match my driver's license name. I explained that the card had my wife's name on it and he finally reluctantly accepted it. I certainly can see the value in a policy of checking credit cards closely but this employee's attitude and the difficulty in the process of being able to get binders for the card stock I had purchased just two days earlier gives me a great deal of reluctance in patronizing this store in the future. I'm not sure if all Staples stores operate in this poor manner but if I have a need for a Staples store in the future I will certainly look for a store other than the Titusville Staples.

Plastic binding spines

These were used for Gift calendars at Christmas. I made 2015 calendars with my Great Granddaughter's picture on the top. There were multiple pictures used and I did not know how to put them together. Then I remembered I had a binding machine that we used for my daughter's Dissertation for her PHD two years ago so I used the machine for the binding project. It worked out very well as I had made 8 of the calendars. These calendars will be cherished throughout the year as each month there will be a different picture of my Great Granddaughter who is such a sweet bundle of joy.

Since I have been doing calendars for my entire family for the past 11 years I decided to try and do it myself instead of paying some copy place to do it. With the binding spines and my machine I am able to bind these calendars and save a lot of money. I also use the HP ink purchased at staples to print out the pictures. Great quality and sharp pictures. Ex Calendars: family christmas trees family houses all grandchildren wedding (5) vintage -military members in WWII 50 yrs anniversary memories -brother & sister) and next year greatgrandma's favorite cookies.

I teach a lot of classes and this way of binding the class instructions means that the instruction books will lie flat unlike stapled booklets. Stapled books beyond 4-5 pages have staples that can catch on fingers since I don't have a power stapler. But used with my Docubind Personal system the booklets come out professional looking and functional for my students. I use heavy cardstock for the covers punched separately and then punch 4 pages at a time for the 20 lb. paper. The resulting book looks great.
