This is an average hole puncher. The design of the handles works smoothly. However the latch that locks the handle is too near where you press the handle so you will often inadvertently latch the handles down as you try to punch holes. The gray handles are plastic. They've held up under several years of homeowner use. The cutting heads are spaced for standard notebook paper holes. There is only one other possible spacing labeled "2-hole". To use it you would removed the waste tray to see the knurled nuts that hold the punching heads in place and move one of the heads. There is a sliding stop that controls where the holes are relative to the bottom of the page. The tray that catches the waste from the punching is stubborn to open and when it suddenly opens you'll probably spill the little paper circles all over the place. This puncher is rated for a max of 20 sheets at a time. If you exceed this the puncher will punch the holes but the waste will tend to jam instead of falling into the waste tray and it will be hard to remove the sheets you punched from the puncher.

Great punch for the price durable metal construction for years of use. Compact when handles are locked down. For full clearance of hole punch the handle must be fully depressed.

Adjustable 3-hole punch

I own 4 3 hole punches trying to fine one to punch more than 4 pages at a time. this one was suggested by the associate that helped me get it off a high shelf and after I asked which one he would buy he explained it this way. I showed him two that were available and I thought were quite similar. He said he would (because he's more techno-minded) probably choose the one I purchased because it is all metal and not a lot of moving parts. It also locks if you choose.and is not adjustable. The other had more moving parts and the frame was partly plastic.and it comes apart really easy. This one is slim all metal locks and is easy to punch 35 - 40 pages as a time. I love it.

Great product for your office at home

With all of the specials from Staples this time of year I was able to purchase a quality product for the same or lower price than a entry level one. The product itself is of excellent quality and the holes are punched very accurately to fit in your holder be it a notebook or folder. It folds down for easy storage. Very little effort is required to punch the holes. Wish I had purchased it years ago but its a little on the pricier side had to wait for the right sale.
