I've been using Ziploc bags for many years. I don't understand some of the poor reviews. While I have noticed that sometimes the zipper is hard to open the first time, I use my thumbnail to get it started. After that, they open, seal and reopen just fine, and I haven't had any bags tear. For non-messy foods and non-food items, I have reused them without incident. I can turn a sealed bag containing liquid upside down without leakage, which is something I couldn't do with the "other" brand's bags.

More than just for food!

We have long used Ziploc bags for organizing and storing clean bulky sweaters, sweatshirts, and cashmere sweater ensembles. It also keeps neatly folded clothes items from sliding and jumbling up in suitcases and camping backpacks. For closet storage of fabrics that should "breathe" we angle cut the bottom corners off, and sometimes wrap tissue paper around the item before sliding it flat into the bag. For backpacking and traveling we leave the corners intack and pack an entire outfit-for-one-day, including under garments, into one bag each. Straighten clothes flat in bag, seal one-half of the bag, then gently sit on the bag to let the air escape and seal the rest of the bag closed. It's amazing how much one can get into such a small travel/backpack space. And no more wet packed clothes when caught in rainstorms, wet tents, boats, or tarmacs!

Leaks!

I use these bags to brine turkeys, pork butts for smoking. They always fail and leak, thereby losing all my brine into the cooler. If I have to double bag them this is even more expensive. No sharp pieces, they are just built to fail.

I normally buy things in bulk from Meats to snacks to cleaning items, etc. I break down my meats and store them in separate bags for individual dinners. I also make my dogs hamburger treats and store them in the freezer and remove as needed.

Store More Than Just Food!

I use these 2 gallon size bags less for food and more for general storage. They're great for documents that you need to save, but don't want to fill up a filing cabinet with. Tax returns and backup material, statements, and such - seal them up, put them in storage bin and stack somewhere out of the way and protected from the elements. The gallon size would be ideal in some cases if only the size were more accommodating to 8-1/2 x 11 stacks of paper.

terrific size

For most household tasks, you are not going to need 2 gallon bags; however, for garden vegetable freezing (of course these are for storage and you will need to purchase the freezer bags) and for general storage and even for keeping the ham or turkey in the refrigerator the 2 gallon size is invaluable. Also I happen to prefer the double zipper to slide zippers which allow liquids to seep through and are also terrible at preventing freezer burn. Double zippers help keep frozen vitals fresher longer.
