Great Index Cards
on February 4, 2011

I was honored that Staples sent me an email asking me to review my recent purchase of 3 by 5 unruled white index cards. I was so excited to receive such a request that I have pondered greatly as to how to best describe the white unruled 3 by 5 index cards. I will do my very best to give an honest review. The cards were labeled as three inches by five inches. Staples did a great job with this description. Each one is in fact 3 by 5.According to the package there were supposed to be 500 cards in that neatly wrapped package. Now I did not count each one but I would certainly estimate that there were about 100 in each of the five packages contained within the big package. That was a welcomed relief to get all 500.Some idex cards have little lines all over them. The reason I bought the unruled index cards is because I did not want those lines on my cards. When I was in the store I could see that they did not have those lines on them and I knew then that this was exactly what I was looking for. You did not have to rely on the label as you could see right through the wrapper. How easy was that! The cards were labeled as white. I guess there are different shades of white but all and all they looked white to me. They are not bright bright white but there is a good contrast between stuff written on them with a pen or printed with a computer. Using that as a guideline they are white enough and pass the test. I started to mark Staples down because they call them index cards since I use these like scratch pads to make notes on. I guess that if I use them as scratch pads rather than for indexing work it's me misuing the product rather than Staples putting the wrong label on it. They could call them multi-use cards for indexing and scratch pads but then somebody might complain becasue they use them as name cards for place settings (print names on the bottom half fold them in half and they stand up like toy tents on the table). Just plain old index cards seems like a good enough name the more I think about it.If you are looking for white unruled three by five index cards (or scratch pad cards or label cards) then this is exactly what you are looking for.

Use for Question and Answer session during Educational seminar - attendees write their questions on the cards and pass them up to the presenter.

Pleasantly surprised that they were already prebundled into 100 card groups. Very nice for storing once the package is opened.

Granddaughter needed them to help her study for college classes for nursing notes. Worked well just wish they had been a bit thicker/stronger.

Online proof is insufficient. Quality does not come near in-store printing. Colors not true to shown paper not true to in-store sample looked cheap -not professional.

I am an 86 year old artist. I've used index cards for years to quick sketch (3 to 5 minutes) faces of people from a short distance; at jazz concerts doctors and dentists waiting rooms etc. The 3x5" cards conveniently fit into my hand to quickly sketch a subject... and it's always a ball to see the expression on their face when I hand them their sketch (that they can easily put into their pocket).
