Thinner than it ever was before

I always have a couple of rolls of your packaging tape on hand. I just started a new roll (Scotch Shipping and Packaging tape which says more than 3000 inches on it). How frustrating, to try to find the end and then have it sliver off. The tape is noticeably thinner than any I've used before and easily tears and folds in on itself. By the time I was finished taping a package, I was totally annoyed and had to write this review. I guess I'll have to look for "HEAVY DUTY" on future purchases, who knew there were different grades.

We did consider the "Scotch" brand to be best tape

We buy this tape every so often to seal product boxes for shipment. We buy product #3650. I know that tape is ridiculously high priced now, but I worry about the sticking power. How much pressure do we have to put on the tape to keep it sticking through shipping. I'm lucky to get the tape to stick for an hour after we put it on, and that is with extra force on the tape 2 or 3 times on clean brand new corrugated tan boxes. Back in the 70's and 80's we used sell 3m tape. What ever happen to the quality. Is this any better than the store brand tapes? Sincerely, getting more and more disappointing.

Difficult to start

I bought 4 rolls. When I attempted to remove the "caution" cardboard thing covering the blade at the performation if left about a 1/4 inch of cardboard over the tape. I finally called 3M and learned to just cut that back to the blade. Then learned the tape DOES NOT go through anything near the blade. On the box it says pull the tape "through the tabs". You do NOT do this either. Those tabs are just a resting place for the tape until you need it again. Pull tape forward and on your box. Then hold it down while turning wrist slightly to cut it. It truly is simple but the directions are very poor. I am not the first writer to be frustrated with the cardboard piece that stayed over the blade. Yet in no video has 3M addressed this. Once I got it going I give it a 3 but trying to start it was so frustrating I give it a very poor rating.

Impossible to start

Why don't you make it easier for the customer to get the tape started. Don't you realize there are a lot of seniors, etc. who don't have FINGERNAILS to scrape the tape off the roll. You're a packaging company; you should make it easy to use your product!

TAPE NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE

Been using this stuff forever now, it appears to be brittle. Little pieces end up on my fingers while using a Scotch Tape Dispenser. Not a fan anymore.

This packing tape used to be great when it was packaged under the SCOTCH name brand. Now they have it as Tartan. Maybe they made it thinner because this product RIPS when you try to pull a long piece longer than 8 inches. Did you folks make the product thinner? It's frustrating because I use it to line paperback books all along the front and back covers, now it rips before I can even cut it to the length I need.

Excellent Packing Tape

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The tape is amazing and I use it for everything from sending things by UPS or USPS to making my own packages. I can make them with about anything as long as I have the Scotch packing tape.
I had an old roll that I lost for about 3 years and when I was going through things in my closet, I found it and it was still great. It had great adhesive, pulled off evenly, and that is why I bought some more just like it.
The security I get from using this tape is very important to me. I mail a ton of packages and bottom line, the Scotch Tape saves me a lot of money in replacement values for things that may otherwise get damaged through rips and tears in packaging or bottoms falling out of boxes during shipment.
