The ULTIMATE Note!! Galaxy Note FINAL Form!!
on December 8, 2022

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I seriously have always been a Galaxy Note fan, going all the way back to the Galaxy Note 5. This is THE final form of the Note.
There is NOTHING that this phone is lacking. 120hz refresh rate at FULL UHD resolution. Bluetooth S Pen. Dual Speakers. Quad Camera Setup(Supertelephoto, telephoto, Ultrawide, and Ultrawide). Don't even get me started on the Pro Video mode. Pro Video Mode seriously can almost be comparable with some DSLR video cameras. Recording at 4K resolution, 60fps? 1080p 120fps?? Not only that, but Pro Video is available on ALL 4 LENSES. Ridiculous. With the right settings/lighting, this phone is untouchable as far as camera quality. Not to mention the moon photography capabilities. I've also taken a picture of the milky way at night during a Colorado trip! The picture was comparable to a DSLR photo. I'm telling you!! I can't even include it to this review because the file is too large, but Google is your friend!
The screen is seriously slick. Adaptive 120fps, at 1440p, and Super AMOLED looks stunning. Samsung ALWAYS has the best displays. Hands down. The most vibrant displays of all time. Did I mention that Samsung facilitates the screens for Apple products as well? That should tell you something.
Among all of these hardware features, the UI is flawless. Especially the new One UI 5. Multitasking capabilities are better than any other phone that I know of. It can even FORCE shrink apps that generally wouldn't work with split screen.
There's just so much customization within the software that you can REALLY make this phone FIT you. You just need to know what you like. Whether you have small hands, BIG hands, bad eyesight, bad hearing, any physical disabilities, there's accessibility and customization for all those things.
Last thing I should mention is the design. Previously on the Note 20 Ultra, the phone was veeery top heavy because of that camera bump. Holding it in your hand was a little awkward. And laying it flat on a table was another awkward issue. It would seasaw side to side while typing because of the camera bump.
But they've REMOVED the camera bump, AND included a bigger battery, fixing the awkward weight displacement, and also giving a more stable surface for laying it directly on its back. The thing has got some weight to it, and I love that. It feels dense.
Not to mention the Matte finish? Less fingerprints? The cleanest looking design I've ever seen on any phone. It's still got the curved edges too which is slick. It gives the display somewhat of a 3D look to it.
I'm telling you, every single issue they had with the Note 20 Ultra is FIXED. Making the S22 Ultra the ULTIMATE PHONE. including a few years of security updates, that's incredible. You can rely on Samsung to keep this phone relevant.
There's really nothing I can truly find wrong with this phone. So much so that I'm not even looking forward to the next version of this phone. There's literally nothing else left to improve.
My ONLY basically irrelevant complaints are Mayne the battery life? And maybe the additional lens resolution? But what's to be expected. Every other phone has those same issues. It's the technology of our time that limits these phones, not the phone itself.
Battery life could be better, but for having the sickest features enabled at all times, that's to be expected. If you're looking for battery life, disable the slick features that no other phone has anyways, and you'll have even better battery life.
Resolutions on the extra camera lenses are great, but not as great as the Main lens. Which is to be expected!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Lacking certain QC aspects

I have tried 2 different s22 ultras out. First one I have returned and ordered a 2nd one, assuming that the first was defective. I am not returning this one as well. It has major connection issues. It doesn't happen all of the time, but sometimes this phones network speed will drop tremendously, even when the network source is at optimum speed. Half the time, I can't even get things (that are online) to load on 5G. And on wifi, it's very inconsistent.
My final straw was having my note 20 ultra and the s22 ultra both connected to my wifi at home. I ran a speed test on my s22 ultra, then on my note 20 ultra.
note 20 ultra: 876 MBPS down / 34 MBPS up S22 ultra: 1 MBPS down/ > 1 MBPS up. Major flaw on 2 separate, brand new s22 ultras
Not to mention, they've implemented a service that prevents your phone from getting too hot while gaming. The issue is that the way thus works is that it drastically reduces the performance of said game to keep your phone cool. You can disable this feature, but then the phone runs ridiculously hot. I'm not sure what the Extra power in this phone is for if you have to restrict it, just so it doesn't catch fire.

Great features poor design. HATE curved screen!

I have had Samsung flagship phones every few years since the Note 3. PROS: S-pen notes and screen and photo writing. Speed. Battery life. Camera. Android. CONS: I absolutely HATE the curved screens. The worst part is it doesnt allow for good screen protectors and the few available are too complicated, too expensive, and inferior to the older flat high end glass ones. Most cases are made with low profile screen side protection which greatly limits protection. Just raise all 4 sides! The curved screen is too sensitive no matter what you do without a case and serve NO functional purpose! STOP MAKING CURVED SCREENS. It's so inconsiderate and pointless! Samsung updates made all notifications the same. You can't only recieve important ones. They are ALL ON or ALL OFF. I don't care about emails because we get too many unimportant ones. My phone no longer shows new messages on the app icons. Super-high resolution pics and videos are impossible to share and difficult to downgrade.
Samsung has made updates to slow phone charging dramatically than was normal in 2021. I never had a battery problem before under any circumstance or temperature. All the raised cameras are hard to protect.

Biometrics don't work

This phone is no better than my S8+. The photos are poor. The biometric options (both fingerprint and face scan) - set by the store, neither works. For a phone that's the cost of a mortgage payment, I expect WAY BETTER.

Love it, surprised to see so many horrible reviews

Camera, awesome, never seen anything like it. The screen capture feature actually allows you to record. This picture is taken from at least 100 yards. I see people saying their batteries aren't lasting. I'm working 10 hour days while listening to Rogan and Jordan Peterson, who I also give five star reviews to. Sorry. Personally I keep an eye on the apps I use and frequently shut off the ones I'm not using. I also go into Chrome and shut windows that are not needed. My experience with this phone is full on 5 star. I still have my 21 Ultra as a backup, it's a little bit tougher and less affected by water so I will use it on occasion but the terabyte of memory on this phone allows me to keep all my data on device and off the cloud. #FJB
