All round good value
on February 21, 2026

I only have one problem with this printer and it's picking up the printed sheet(s) from the paper exit. There is a small indentation to aid this but, for me, it just isn't big enough.
Minor complaint about a very good printer, colours are good, speed is good all round good printer for the money.

Inconsistent alignment / registration with bypass forms. iPrint and scanner software updates are way to often and do not function correctly.

No Windows 7 drivers (22% of Windows users!)
on May 27, 2024
Posted by: Bought My Last Brother
This review is about one thing and one thing only: withholding drivers for Windows 7 is B.S. The massive success of the Windows ecosystem in its heyday was in large part due to commitment to backward compatibility, standards compliance, and support for legacy applications and systems. Once it could be taken on faith that a new computer or peripheral would work with the customer's existing setup. It wasn't uncommon for a new PC to be able to run games published a decade earlier.
I purchased the HL-L3220CDW to replace my HL-3170CDW, which finally refused to power on after years of reliable service. Imagine my outage when I plugged it in and discovered that Brother offers 3220 drivers only for a small subset of the O.S. versions supported by the 3170. As of October 2023, over 22 percent of Windows users were still on Windows 7, according to urbannetwork.co.uk. I still use Windows 7 on purpose: in every subsequent version of Windows, Microsoft has removed more features, taken away more control from the user, and made the user interface less capable, on the name of "simplicity". Each new release has also required years of shakedown time for MS to release the patches to make it usable.
The "upgrade treadmill" forced on computer users by manufacturers and developers to force continued sales has become the norm. The "subscription" model now dominates, even in hardware: you can "buy" a computer, a printer, or a program, but you'll have to pay us a monthly fee to use it. And when we have a new one to sell you, we won't let you subscribe to the old one any more.

Difficult to replace ink cartridges & no autoclean
on June 6, 2025
Posted by: Sheila M
The ink cartridges have to go inside a removable sleeve, it is difficult and wonky to replace. No auto cleaning, must be done manually. Have lots of color ink issues, including faded colors and colors are often much different than the document.

LaserJet color printer
on July 1, 2024

Have worked in IT since the 80’s I have used or repaired just about every kind of printer available.
The inkjet printers are great if you’re printing often which I don’t. The ink is messy and dries out and clogs the print head. In the end it is not a cost effective solution.
This Canon printer was New, comes complete with full toner cartridges and enough for 1000 pages implied. It prints every time without issue. The output looks great and for casual photos of family for the fridge it’s not bad.
