Just get them. Infinitely better than Apple Airpods Max and the top-of-the-line Beats. I own all three.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good sound quality, but loads of connection issues

While the sound quality on the Sony WH-1000XM6 is undeniably impressive and the noise cancellation remains top-tier, the actual user experience is marred by inexcusable technical flaws. The flagship multipoint connection feature is fundamentally broken and feels incredibly unstable during daily use. It constantly suffers from what I can only describe as connection corruption; if I am listening to audio on my computer and briefly use my phone for even a second, the sound from my computer vanishes entirely. Even more frustrating is that standard troubleshooting steps like toggling Bluetooth or manually reconnecting via the PC do absolutely nothing to restore the stream.
The only way to get the headphones to function properly again is to perform a full hardware restart of the device. Having to power cycle my headphones multiple times a day just to handle basic task-switching is a massive disruption to my workflow and simply unacceptable for a premium product. For a pair of headphones at this price point, I expected a seamless transition between devices, but instead, I’m left with a glitchy experience that feels more like a beta test than a finished consumer product. Sony needs to address these stability issues immediately, as the excellent audio doesn't make up for the constant frustration of a failing connection.

Hi there,

We are truly sorry to hear about the frustrating experience you’ve had with the multipoint connection on your WH-1000XM6. We aim for a seamless transition between devices, and it's clear we missed the mark for your workflow.

To help resolve this, please ensure your headphones and the Sony | Headphones Connect app are updated to the latest firmware, as we frequently release stability patches. You might also try clearing the paired device list in the app and re-establishing the connections. If the "connection corruption" persists, we recommend reaching out to our support team so we can look into this further for you: https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US

Thanks for choosing Sony.

Best regards,

Perfect Headphones

I bought these about 2 weeks ago and I absolutely can say the price justifies the sound quality perfectly. From the crisp, deep bass, and perfectly clear highs, these give you such a large soundstage it’s incredible. I will say I’m not the biggest fan of how thin the earcups are, as the headband makes the cups lean inwards on the bottom of your ears compared to the XM5’s flattened design on your head. It does create a pressure point on that lower part of your ear, but it’s only noticeable (to me) after about an hour or two of listening. Overall, these are the most comfortable headphones, best sounding, and best noise cancelling I’ve ever experienced. I would just love to see a flatter fit, and more filled earcups since they are rather flat feeling. 10/10

Unwelcome startle

Hi there, I wanted to give a review since it appears you actually read them. I actually think the noise cancellation works incredibly well- the only headphones that have blocked out bass music I hear from living above a restaurant. I was, initially, so grateful. However, I had 2 experiences where the headphones spontaneously connected to another persons device and while sleeping, woke me up abruptly. In addition to these 2 experiences, when the headphones are dying, they insist on letting you know- loudly signaling you to you they are on low battery. For someone who wants to use headphones for quiet and to fall asleep-- it's a horrible startle to be reawaken by the headphones themselves. I'm now too scared to use them again. If these issues can be fixed, I'm open to your feedback and would write a new review. Thanks!

Hi HelpinSF,
Thank you for your feedback and for sharing your experience with the WH-1000XM6 headphones. We're really glad to hear that the noise cancellation is working well for you and helping to block out the bass music. At the same time, we’re sorry to hear about the issues you’ve faced with the headphones connecting to another device unexpectedly and the loud low battery alerts that disturbed your sleep.

To help with the connection issue, you can try turning off the feature that allows the headphones to connect to two devices at the same time. You can do this by opening the Sony | Sound Connect app on your phone, going to the system settings, and switching off the option for multipoint connection. This should prevent the headphones from switching to someone else’s device without your control.

Regarding the loud low battery alerts, while there isn’t a way to completely turn off the notifications, you can lower the volume of the voice guidance in the app. This can make the alerts less startling, especially when you’re trying to sleep.

We hope these suggestions enhance your experience. If you continue to have any issues, please reach out to Sony Support using the contact information below.

We appreciate your willingness to update your review once these issues are resolved. Thanks again for choosing Sony and sharing your feedback.
Warm regards,

Last only 1 month for me.
on January 28, 2026
Posted by: Far1122
I bought the sonyxm6s about 3 months ago and after a couple of weeks after I bought them I started to notice that the noise cancellation was getting worse. When I did some research, mostly it was about human brain adapting to it. So I was like ok, but it’s been two weeks that when I turn them off and then on there is no difference, I hear everyone clearly and there is no difference when they are off or on. I had high expectations from these headphone. There is also creaking noise coming from the top part of the head band, which is very annoying to someone like me that walks a lot from having headphone on. I know that the sound quality is great but paying 450 for them to last about 1 month is absolutely ridiculous.

Thank you for sharing your feedback.

We are truly sorry to hear that your experience with your WH-1000XM6 headphones has been so frustrating. We understand that when you invest in a premium product, you expect premium performance to last. Hearing that the Noise Canceling has become ineffective and that you're experiencing a creaking noise in the headband is certainly not the experience we want for you.

While it's true that the "brain adaptation" effect is a real phenomenon, it should never result in zero difference between the Noise Canceling being ON or OFF. This, combined with the physical creaking you described, suggests your unit may require a closer look by our technical team.

We would love to help get these back to the "industry-leading" standard you expected. Please try these two quick steps to see if they resolve the software side of things:

Initialize the Headphones: With the headphones turned off, press and hold the Power and NC/AMB buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds. This restores factory settings.

Check the Sony | Headphones Connect App: Ensure the "Adaptive Sound Control" isn't accidentally switching your settings to "Ambient Sound" mode based on your movement.

If these steps don't improve the NC performance, or to address the headband noise, please reach out to our support team so we can look into your warranty options: https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US&category=headphones

We value your loyalty and want to make this right.

Horrible connection issues

I bought this a couple of months ago and the sound continues to cut out 24/7. I’ve put the Bluetooth connection setting on stable connection priority and it still happens. Overall a waste of a large amount of money.

Hi Bnott,
Thanks so much for sharing your feedback with us. We are incredibly sorry to hear that your headphones are cutting out like this.
We'd love to help you try a few quick steps to see if we can get that audio stable for you:

-Try pairing your headphones with a different phone, tablet, or computer. This helps us figure out if the trouble is coming from the headphones themselves or the original device you were using.

-Check for firmware updates: Open the Sony | Sound Connect app on your phone and connect your headphones. If there’s a new update available, you’ll see a prompt to install it.
https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/wireless-headphones-bluetooth-headphones/wh-1000xm6/software/00355433

-Reset the headphones: Plug your headphones into a power outlet using the charging cable. Then, simply press and hold both the Power button and the NC/AMB button at the same time for about 5 seconds.
For detailed instructions, check this link: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/2984/v1/en/contents/TP1001863306.html

-Initialize the headphones: This will restore them to factory settings (you'll need to pair them again afterward). You can find the step-by-step guide on how to do the initialization here: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/2984/v1/en/contents/TP1001863305.html

If you’ve gone through all of these and the sound is still cutting out, please reach out to our technical support team directly. https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US&category=headphones

We really appreciate you giving Sony a try and letting us know about this issue.
Warm regards,

Most uncomfortable Headphones I have ever owned

Most uncomfortable Headphones I have ever owned. Noise canceling is amazing but so uncomfortable I can't even wear anymore and will have to sell and take a huge loss.
Specifically, it is the right ear cup. Left feels great but no matter what I do, the right side bothers me.

Response from sony.comBy Sony North America Customer Support, January 24, 2026
Hi Mike7,

Thank you for sharing your experience with the WH-1000XM6. We are very glad to hear that you found the noise canceling performance to be amazing, but we are sincerely sorry to learn about the discomfort you are experiencing with the right ear cup. Our goal is for our technology to be as ergonomic as it is powerful, and we certainly do not want you to feel the need to sell your headphones due to a fitment issue.

Often, localized discomfort on just one side can be resolved by adjusting the angle of the headband or the extension of the sliders to ensure the weight is distributed evenly across the head rather than pressing against the ear. If the headphones are not positioned precisely, it can cause the internal sensors or the driver housing to make contact with the ear. To help you achieve a more seamless fit, we have created a comprehensive guide on how to wear the headphones correctly to maximize long-term comfort:

https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/2984/v1/en/contents/TP1001861255.html

We recommend reviewing these adjustments to see if a slight change in positioning resolves the pressure you are feeling on the right side. We truly value your feedback as it helps us improve the design of future generations, and we hope these tips allow you to enjoy your headphones comfortably.

Thank you for considering Sony!

Best regards,
Dominick
