Prefer hinged lid

These containers are great for storing shoes! However, I prefer the old style with the attached, hinged lid. It avoided the problem of "lost" lids. They are deep enough for taller heels and ankle boots.
I would recommend this to a friend!

A big disappointment

If you are like me and needs lots of these sorts of containers to organize you closet, workshop, or whatever, an important factor is consistency in the design. I had about 50 of the older design and when I needed more, that design was discontinued. This new design is the same capacity but is shaped differently so they don't stack with the older ones very well. The lid is larger and therefore the newer ones take up more space on the shelf.
The real disappointment though is the material which is probably why they redesigned it. The lid and body are thinner and the body is made from a more brittle plastic. In all the years I have owned the older design, I have never cracked one. I probably have cracked 3 or 4 of the new designs already and this is for relatively light duty. Just a way to make a cheaper to squeeze more margin out if a product of lesser quality.
A real shame.

I've been using this same style box for about 15 years to organize my entire life in. I use them for projects, crafts, household odds and ends and the size is just PERFECT. They stack nicely, they're cheap, durable, and the clear plastic makes them easy to see whats inside if I didn't get around to labeling them yet.
Please don't discontinue them! They seem to be getting harder and harder to find and I'm afraid one day I'll need to organize more stuff and I won't have stack-compatible boxes to do it in anymore! :P

The customer is right in his review. This Sterilite shoe boxes are resized. The 1642 was 13 5/8 x 8 1/4 x 4 7/8. Now they are 14 x 8”x 4 7/8. The bottom is narrower. We can’t find the 1642. Have you discontinued them?

Good for multiple uses.

I use these to the tune over over 100 a year. I fill them for Operation Christmas Child, and I use a bandana as "tissue paper" (the bandana adds color and can be reused, whereas tissue paper has a very limited usefulness). Lately, I have been having a great deal of trouble getting them, particularly in ANY color other than grey. However, I look forward to filling many more of them. They are much more useful, I hope, to the recipient than a cardboard box.

Sloped sides are bad

I used to love these boxes when their sides were straight, now they slope and things don’t fit as well. Why did you change them?

Hello Jr70, the Sterilite 6 Qt Storage Box hasn't changed but there is another 6 Qt Storage Box-item number 1851, that has less of a “slope” than the 1642. You can check the bottom of the item, it will have the item number molded into the base. This item is still currently available from Walmart for purchase if you prefer that item. Best For Lego's

I use this product for my Lego's & my Son Toys. I just wish they make of this with a divider on it, but not the one that you can take it out, just like some food storage style, because there are some Lego's that i need to separate, and i want to have the same colors but different types on one Box...
All in All, a very good Product for me...

I use these containers all over my classroom. They hold books in the classroom library, supplies for each chapter of study, crayons and all sorts of things. They are a great price, too.
