Functional design for professional life and home.

The design is functional; the letter- or legal-size hanging folders fit together very well without slipping. It helps me find files quickly, since it's transparent, I can see the contents without having to open it.
It's very useful for organizing my professional life, in the classroom (since I'm a teacher), and at home. It's practical for storing documents, invoices, tax forms, paperwork and my children's drawings.
It's made of high-quality, durable, sturdy plastic, and it holds up perfectly to transport between my classroom and my apartment.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I went and got a 2nd one, because the I had more than I thought needed to be filed and away they'll come with us during Hurricanes .

Brittle Lids Make These Useless

I’m a professional home organizer and often purchase storage products for client paperwork. After buying several of the Sterilite File Boxes (Model 1868), I can confidently say these are absolute junk. The lids are incredibly brittle and crack with even minimal use and little weight added to the inside of the box, which instantly renders the boxes useless. It’s disappointing that replacement lids aren’t available—such a waste.
Sterilite really needs to redesign these with a sturdier, stackable lid that can actually hold up to normal handling. Until then, I can’t recommend them for anyone who needs reliable, long-term file storage.

My kingdom for a lid

The lid broke and I can not replace just the lid. Ill have to fins another product were the top is more sturdy. Sucks because other then the lid issue its a good file box.

DECEPTIVE SIZING

While this says it is 18-1/2" long, this is very deceptive. on each side is a decorative piece of plastic, and they are measuring this into the size - but it is on the sides of this box, so it is basically 2 inches shorter on each side, meaning it's more like 14" long. Inside is the same - there is plastic to hang files, and that takes up space, so if you are looking for a box 18-1/2" long to have something that size fit inside here, look elsewhere. Sterlite, this is deceptive and wrong - the box should be measured from the inside so people can buy the correct size for what they need, NOT adding decorative plastic past those dimensions and counting that.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello Barbie28311, the dimensions listed on our website and labels are the measurements taken from the widest points of the product, typically the lid or top, and include any protrusions such as latches. Inside bottom dimensions are smaller as the product tapers downward. This is the universal method for measuring housewares. We are very sorry to hear the File Box did not meet your size expectations. lids shrink! very weird

Why do the lids shrink in size? very odd. I suppose if I had kept them connected to the bins, it would not happen, but I have 3 letter bins, and the tops almost fit, but the last corner won't snap in! clearly, they shrunk! I tried to soak in water to see if that helped, but no luck

Lids are Brittle, and break easily

Lids are brittle, broke within a day of getting it home. Bumped into something and cracked into multiple pieces. The main box is better, but without a lid, it's not much use.
