The best features, but huge

5mo Update: It seems my skin issues have subsided a bit so I'm cropping this up to a me issue and improved the rating. Perhaps it's just something to get used to. But the sharp ridge is for sure a design improvement and for that I cannot give it a full 5star rating.
4mo Update: The ridge on the optical sensor is irritating my skin much more than the original Instinct Solar. Where that watch had a nicely molded optical lense with large radius, this 2X has a sharper ridge where the body plastic ends and dips down to the optical lense where the sensors are. It's given my skin an exzema-like rash in this area and as much as I like this watch I hesitate to recommend it due to this.
OG review: This watch is the creme de la creme of Instincts. Does all the things. HR/GPS accuracy is excellent. It's lightweight. The torch LED light is amazing! And the battery life, somehow better than before! Amazing in every way except one thing... Coming from the original Instinct Solar (which was perfect for me size wise), the extra 5mm in size is too big for me. I'm regularly hitting the GPS and back buttons when I flex my wrist too much (inconsequential but worth noting). I'd actually step down a size if it ONLY meant slightly less solar capability and battery life. But I'm not willing to sacrifice the better barometric/altimeter port (one of my peevs of the OG instinct), or any of the improved software functions (and the LED TORCH, that is amazing!). So here we are. I still love the watch, trying to get used to the size. The Instinct 2/2S is just a smaller 2X in some ways, but had polarization issues and obviously you lose the Torch. I'll keep the 2X due to this.

Great health/activity tracking and battery charge lasts 2+ weeks
on February 5, 2024

My sons bought this watch for me for my birthday. I tracks my sleeping quality, heart beat, breathing and activities. The Garmin Connect app interfaces very well with my iPhone.
The light function on the watch is very helpful, although it does use the battery quickly. So be careful about using it.
The face of the watch is customizable.
I recharge the watch every 2 weeks or so. I don't have to take off the watch at night to be charged.
I have had the watch for 6 months and continue to be very pleased with it!

Best smartwatch for outdoor recreation
on January 2, 2024

I upgraded to this watch thinking that it would be the perfect watch for outdoor recreation and I was absolutely correct. It has everything you'd need to track your hikes, rides, and tons of other activities. The solar capabilities is actually pretty solid. I have been able to get a 2% gain in battery from just being in the sun; The watch itself uses about 2%ish per day so it was not a net increase in charge but it definitely helps to prolong the battery life. Even with tracking daily events with GPS enabled, I can get a solid week before having to charge it. It will look pretty bulky if you have smaller wrists though as this is a hefty watch, but it's manageable. The include white/red LED light is actually life changing. I use the red light almost daily if I get up in the middle of the night just to walk around. It's handy to always have a light available on your wrist.

Excellent watch

Great watch with excellent battery life, a bit bigger than what I expected but a solid watch for the adventurous type! A little bulky for those with smaller wrists(like myself) but all the features of the watch make it worth it. Probably better for those doing a lot of outdoor activities but the app does a great job of explaining all the features to a beginner.

Best sport watch I've ever owned
on December 12, 2023

This watch is unbelievably robust and strong. I Boulder and climb about 3 times a week and I have smacked a rubbed this watch across some pretty nasty textures. My FAVOURITE feature is the flashlight, at first I thought it was a gimmick but it's definitely what I use the most on the watch. I would say this watch is great for any sport or skill level. Takes a little to learn the interface if you haven't had a Garmin before, but still an awesome user friendly device!

Outstanding version update to an already amazing watch platform
on November 29, 2023

The Garmin instinct 2x solar takes what was already an amazing smart watch platform and makes it even better. Longer battery life for even better tracking, a wealth of health analytics include sleep statistics, heartrate, breathing, exercise loads etc. This watch is a game changer, rarely needs to be charged even with regular use (I track cycling activities 4-6 days a week, with GPS tracking data and still only charge 1x a week). Also super impressed with Garmin's continued development and feature releases on these--they've improved the data analytics and watch functions via update and that's pretty awesome that they not only continue to keep the devices up to date but actually improve the features you're getting from it. Watch is super tough, takes a beating, I nearly never take mine off, it's been whacked, wet, crashed on (mtb's, it happens) and has not shown any sign of damage or scratching which is also super impressive. 10/10 would recommend and/or buy again!

Metric measurements!
on November 19, 2023

The metrics that this watch measures are great! I bought it to track a 6 hr run and for future races. I am using it for so much more. Tracking my sleep has been great. The flashlight has been a game changer when unlocking doors in the dark. The battery life is great! Great for anyone looking to track walks around the block or ultras!
