The 4TB My Passport SSD USB3.2 external drive worked as advertised and achieved transfer rates which made system backup of 3TB practical. The drive is remarkably small. The supplied USB 3.2 compliant cable is very short. Since my fastest USB port is on the back of the computer, it was awkward to connect and a bit hard to monitor the temperature of the drive during use. The drive did get warm during use. In summary, this is a wonderful backup device which makes a practical backup system for 3TB of data which can be removed from the computer in-between weekly backups. I am very pleased with the results.

I was very happy to see that Western Digital was playing in the external SSD Space. Having a 2TB Samsung T7 in the fleet currently as well as a 1TB SanDisk dual thumb drive, among a plethora of external 2.5" drives of varying sizes and models, I thought that I really ought to check this one out. I sized up to the 4TB as my MacBook Pro has only 256 onboard, and I wanted the ability to dump GoPro Max and Hero 10 Videos as well as DSLR Photos and more onto a device and edit straight from there...It took me a bit to get my workflow right, but it has turned out well. This goes with me basically everywhere...may need to velcro it onto my laptop :-) This is price competitive for the size and speeds. It is not especially hardened or durable, but external suds are better than spinning rust. this has withstood a couple air and car trips effortlessly.

I bought the WD 4TB My Passport as a backup drive for my iMac. I formatted it properly before use. It failed within one week. By failing, I mean the drive was inaccessible. Disk Utility could not open it. It was a brick. Figuring it was a manufacturing exception, I ordered a replacement. The same thing happened in only two days. It's a shame because I have several large-capacity Western Digital HDDs I have used for a few years. One of them finally failed, so I intended to transition to SSDs. Obviously, that won't be happening.

We have identified a firmware issue that presents itself in very limited situations and can cause SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2, SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD V2, and WD My Passport SSD products to unexpectedly disconnect from a computer. If you don't accept their requirement to send them performance data it fails the installation and they don't tell you why. Absolutely illegal. There's no choice, it's forced. You can see samples of complaints throughout the internet.

Drive was faulty. Started to crash immediately. Nearly lost a bunch of work. Will not be purchasing Western Digital drive again

A good fast drive! It seems to disconnect from the Mac at times and the only way to fix it is by ejecting it. I would like to see WD offer an optional case to protect the drive during travel.
