I used this ASUS RT-BE58U router for 3 weeks before returning it. This router performs poorly compared to my ISP 802.11AC router. My ISP router has a more consistent, reliable connection. When using this Asus router it switches between 80Mhz and 160MHZ on the 5GHZ band. At 160MHZ the throughput speeds are great but the RSSI is poor and range is diminished. When it switches to 80mhz the RSSI is better but the throughput speeds are less than my old ISP router. I updated the firmware right after setup and it made no improvements. I also have an older 802.11AC ASUS router that works better than this one. I'm sure that maybe some fixes may happen with future firmware updates, but I'm not willing wait. I returned the router for a refund.

USB Tethering

This was my first ever Asus router. I bought this router for its wifi 7 capability, but more importantly for its USB tethering function (i.e., using mobile data as the source of internet connection of your network). Couldn't be happier, despite the fact that it is an entry level wifi 7 router and as such, doesn't have all the bells and whistles. And its build quality kind of feels cheap and it is pretty pricy for what it is--even with 20% discount at 160$.
Although, it makes up for all the above mentioned with the ease of setup and control through Asus router app (which I find quite functional and with good UI). Has excellent AI security embedded--which will automatically adjusts the settings to the safest possible, without you having to wrestle and figure out everything, Has a traffic analyzer, yet another security measure. And it seamlessly integrates with USB tethering function of an android phone (albeit, after an automatic update to the latest firmware). Providing the option of having the USB as the main source and cable as the fall back and vise versa.
Moreover, it has more than sufficient range and power for a one bedroom apartment--stemming from a very compact and unobtrusive body with four relatively large and disproportionate antennas, which are not detachable (so range cannot be limited).

Very good router. Range is not as good as our previous router but acceptable. Happy with the setup. Very easy to install. A very good product especially when on sale.

Great Router, weak on signal, I am not sure?

I had my old router for about 8 years. It was high end, but very expensive ($600 CAD), when I bought it. It covered my whole house (medium size) with full bars on the signal of all my devices, everywhere, no boosters necessary. But, periodically, about 2x per year, it would go off line, and it was getting old, so I decided to buy a new one.
My choice was new technology. inexpensive, ($150 CAD - this router), and not powerful, or older technology, way more powerful, and way more expensive ($450 CAD), there was nothing in the middle that had great ratings, so I went with newer, less expensive, and less powerful,
This ASUS RT-BE58U router so far (3 weeks) has been excellent. Strangely, it does not give me a full bar signal all over the house, but it still gives me maximum speed everywhere in my house (go figure), as tested using an online speed test. I find this rather odd, that I get my full internet speed (same as my directly wired desktop computer) but I only have two bars on my portable devices. Perhaps it is due to the Multi Link Operation (linking dual bands) for smoother operation, I am not sure. But, so far, it works great, and I like it.
The only problem I have had with the router, was when I connected a USB Stick to the router, to share files with all my devices. The router recognized the USB Stick, but after going around and around in circles, and changing a lot of settings, for three hours, I was never able to get other devices to see the USB stick, even with a lot of Google searching. This was not a big deal to me, so I just gave up. I suspect I had a setting wrong somewhere, but I am not sure.
Overall, and I am glad that I purchased this router. Its a great router, at a reasonable price, and I really like it, but I did deduct one star for poor File Sharing Setup.
