Unit didn't work when installed. Had a difficult time trying to contact Asus to get a RMA on line. Finally able to contact via chat. Difficult web site to maneuver.

Thank you for your comment.
We do understand your disappointment with the product and the inconvenience this may have caused if it did not work. To resolve the issue, ensure your PC meets the system requirements of the optical disc drive. If it does meets system requirements, ensure the drive was connected properly, and Windows and the chipset driver for your PC are up to date.

I love the drive. It works great and is very quiet (as disc drives go). My only complaint is that I wish it included the software required for playing Blu-ray movie discs. I bought a Blu-ray reader for my laptop a few years ago, and it was the same issue. I can read Blu-ray data discs, but can't play movies. I had to get additional software to do so. It doesn't seem like it would be a great leap, as the included read-write software is from CyberLink, and so is the movie player software. So maybe just upgrading the contract to include a base version of the movie player software along with the read-write data package? I know it would add to the cost of the unit I'm buying, but certainly worth it since the individual purchase of the software is not cheap. Maybe I'm in a minority in wanting this function for my Blu-ray reader/burner, and if so, then five stars.

I spend four to six hours a day of database management on my computer. I really purchased the ASUS Blueray device to watch DVD movies and to record my datebase applications. But I was disappointed to find out that ASUS does not provide the drivers to watch purchased DVD movies, and their website is very limited if you need help on drivers. I guess they think we are producing our own movies for desktop viewing. I wouldn't buy a cheap ASUS for THAT! Their help desk sucks!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
